Dual point Dist question

After setting pointS .017" 1962 Desoto long ram . I only see one set of pointS snapping/sparking key on engine cranking.... am I doing something wrong. This is a mopar cast iron 383 1960 dist with vac advance.

Dump the points . We have better now.
Some of us like to stay original....plus, even though the points system require more maintenance, they are more reliable because they are so simple. At least that's the way it was for my junk. I got so sick of replacing ECU's and ballast resistors and the like that if it came with points, I kept them.
 
I do respect that have many single and dual points. Keep the faith Brother.
 
I believe first set closes and loads the second one then that one fires the coil. That momentary delay lets the coil build more voltage henceforth the advantage of dual points.

Its old school magenetic works way better.

I've only ran one dual point system in any car and yeah, one set closes just before the other and you have to check each set separately by using a piece of thin cardboard on one then the other to set the dwell for both. I do know that a dual point set up lasts longer than a single too....but man, it's been 25+ years since doing that.
 
But its fun to know that just to teach. Most wont know a matchbook top not sure if you do.

You know your stuff all real and easy why mess with perfection.

You have it down pat.
 
Points work for many years and dual have longer life.
Used to drive my Belvedere /6 to work nearly every day and then some. Could go a year without touching the points and then would have to take a look and reset the gap. Usually knew when the gap was getting close because the motor would start pinging slightly on quick acceleration starts. Most times I'd just back off of the timing a bit then dive in a few weeks later and pull the dizzy, inspect and reset the points if they weren't bad looking but usually filed them before sticking them back in. On a /6, I usually put that off as long as possible! One thing that points did was make you at least open the hood from time to time lol!
 
Good old soul. dwell and points think less one handed if that makes sense.
 
When the big magnetic pulse hits and all the electronic things die, us old points guys will be the only thing running. :)
