What do these spark plug say?

The only thing I ever heard them say was "snap".... or, was it "crackle" ... hmm, maybe "pop'.

Seems as though we might consult with the plug whisperer

well glad everyone is having fun with the thread.

I ran some new vacuum hoses to the brake booster , vacuum canister and my gauge I have mounted on the dash. This really seem help my park to drive idle. It would drop about 400 rpm and my vaccum would drop probably 5". Now it's more like 200rpm and maybe 1" of vacuum. I found a hole in the "T" fitting I was using.

The idle still did see to have a constant fluctuation though. I pulled the cap off the distributor everything appeared fine. I pulled the rotor off and grabbed the reluctor and gave it a twist moving threw the mechanical advance . I noticed a had a tiny bit of play. The key holding reluctor in place seemed to be loose allowing for a tiny bit of movement. I made a new one it of old Allen key and then set the air gap to the pick up. Havent had a chance to fire it up yet though. Will update when I do

So started up the car ... everything running pretty good. But as I was setting the timing I noticed it start miss, then just died on me. It would fire right back up but would die again with no real apparent reason. I pulled the new Ecoil and noticed something seemed to be rattling inside. Not a good thing ! Called up summit and a new one is on the way. In thr mean time i swapped back to the orange ecu and street fire coil ( the beauty of this swap is I can change it back in about 15 mins ). I took the car for drive with original setup and it ran like a top except for running rich and strong fuel smell was back . But it did not die or misfire at all. So this at least tells me the problem is with the coil or module . My bet is the rattle can coil I got

Little back ground. I did the stealth HEI module swap inside the orange ecu box, gutted the ballast and got a summit E-coil. The car started right up, I'm running a wideband O2 and saw that it leaned out my idle so I adjusted the mixture and adjusted my rpm a bit and double checked my initial timing at 18*. Took the car out for a spin. It seems to be running great . I had a set of plugs that had basically no run time on them I gapped them to .40 and threw them in. I drove the car to work today it ran great except about half way home I heard an odd misfire . It honestly sounded more like my muffler fell off for a split second . Kept driving as nothing else seemed to oUT of the norm. 2 Corners from my house it did the misfire again honestly sounded liken it was right inside the muffler . Last corner the car almost stalls but keeps going and evens out. I get home and the car idles perfectly fine sitting in park. Put it drive and is fine , could not get it to miss again.

I pulled a few plus to see what they look like . I am crusing at 14.0 on wideband and the car seems to be running great other than the weird misfire.
The car deffinently seems to be running cleaner dosent smell as rich as it used to.

Here are the plugs. Thoughts.......

Sounds like your floats are too high or a needle is stuck.

Are the plugs numbered?
One is rich
One is lean
One is ok at cruise
Down inside is WOT that looks rich
Timing looks good
Where are the other 5?
.
Is the dark one from 3,4,5,or 6?

With the HEI mod, be sure you have 12+volts at coil.

I had to use relay as I did not have full voltage even with ballast resistor removed.

The plugs were off the passager side. Just the easier ones to pull at the time.

I know the float levels are good . But I have been wondering about a problem with the front bowl needle. I think am going to pull the carb and check things out .

The coil is getting full system voltage.. 14 ish
