Putting the new wheel on the Coronet. I lined up the splines on the column like some of the threads from this form, but how can you tell if the wheel key way lines up with the shaft key way> I cannot see it or feel it even after making scribe marks. Any help would be cool.

I’ve always just eyed it, if it doesn’t slip right on then you are off a spline or two. That’s if the splines aren’t boogered up, if they are then you need to repair them and start over.

ok .... guess I need to clean and check the splines. The column is out of a 64 sport fury that had power steering... but I don't think that's the issue here. The new wheel is nice but $$ . Thanks

I am gathering you bought a new steering wheel? My new one didn't fit as the center hole was too small. Had a local guy (JC Auto Restorations) fix it for me as I had already had it dyed to match the rest of the interior. Haven't installed it yet but he test fit it on a column he had. Hope you don't have the same issue.

My new steering wheel did not fit right on my 64 Belvedere. I did a lot of fileing to get it to slide on far enough. I hope you have better luck. Jay
