Ik this question has been beaten to death but i have had zero luck. Im about to pull the trigger on the purchase of this tranny and the guy seems genuine but like with all things purchased online i like to be sure instead of taking their word. Ive managed to find out that it's a 63-64 big block tranny (which is exactly what i need for my 62 belvedere) but i need to know for sure if it's a pushbutton auto not a column shifter etc. Anyone smarter than me able to help?

Quoting Geetex here, the following link is where i got it.. this is the most relevant info ive found so far:

"1963 - 1964 B body 426 2-4bbls Max. Perf. the part number on the trans should be 2464426. I don't know if it would be proceeded by PK or not so could be PK2464426. I can't help with the date code, the next 4 digits, for a '62 built trans., and the sequence number, the last 4 digits, could be anything. This isn't a whole lot of help but at least it gives you a part number."

63 and 64 use a trunion type draveshaft, and 65 uses a slip yoke. Easy as that! ruffcut

If it's a 63-64 it would not be a column shift.

Max wedge and 300J tranny. You couldn’t possibly want it, better just give me the guys phone number :)

The PK is typical in front of the number. This would be a pushbutton and not a console.

between the big hole in the front dr side where the cable goes in and the part no. it 's pretty simple the figure out.

In what universe is the last digit in that part number a 6? How does 2464424 sound. 1964 383. The seven digit number after the part number on pre 68 transmissions, has no date code information. It is a sequential serial number.

And I went with his misread! That’s a console tranny, not a pushbutton. I have the exact same one in my ‘64. If you buy it I’ll swap valve bodies with you. My spare tranny is a ‘64 pushbutton but I’d rather have the console. That way I’m not hunting for parts if I want to rebuild it.

You think the valve body off a small block pushbutton could fit onto that big block tranny? Cause my belvedere does have a small block in it now backed by a push button trans

Yes, it should work fine. Don't dump the console valve body. Only so many of those and not making more.

You can use a console VB with a PB shifter and cable, just use the console shift cable adjustment procedure.

Hmm, just catching your post, think I should hang onto the ‘65 727 I’ve had stowed in the garage for 25 years. I bought it with a ’65 Coronet rear I put in my ’63 Plymouth years ago. Guy wanted to buy it and didn’t think the cash he wanted to give me for it was a fair price. My trans is working fine; but know things can go to chit anytime..

Unless a cable shift trans is out of an Imperial, there are thee types. 1st 62-64 push button with ball and trunion. 2nd 64 console shift with ball and trunion. 3rd 65 slip yoke with column or floor shift. Any can be converted between column/floor shift and push button. The only difference is the rosster comb, manual valve, and neutral safety switch.

You might consider just buying one from Pat Blais. He just across the boarder in N Wash state and he probably has more TF cores than anyone on the planet, and if you are courteous and patient, he might supply a really great ready to run trans.
