Used to have a large garden growing tomatoes, peppers, beans, etc. Given your price info sounds like I should return to that..

I'm actually constructing the wife a decent size greenhouse. hope she uses it wisely ...... if I make her a garden, it will just become yet another job for me

I was talking to a buddy about this yesterday...
It is tradition to begrudge the youngsters and praise ourselves for our habits but THIS really is a legitimate gripe.
Our generation had to be creative, resistant, persistent and smart. There was no tech at our reach to answer every question so to learn, we tried things. We made mistakes and learned from them. We were all our own "research and development" teams that figured out things for ourselves. We were not born with a head full of knowledge, we earned it by trial and error.
Young people today (NOT all but some...) Do not develop critical thinking skills. They do not know what real hardships and inconvenience is. They have a question and look to Google for an answer.
I know that the deepest and most ingrained lessons that I have learned were by actual hands on experience.
Touch a hot stove? Oh ****....That HURTS!
The Wife asks...."Do these pants make my *** look fat?" I respond....No, your fat *** makes your *** look fat. (Kidding, I was smart enough to NOT do that.)
Young Carpenters on the job are a lot like young people everywhere else. They have a distinct lack of initiative to jump in and learn.
There are young guys turning out of the apprenticeship program as Journeymen and they don't know 1 /10th of what a guy like me knows.
The training programs are not teaching them how to solve problems. Guys on the job can assemble something but when they run into problems, they lack the skills to make changes to get back on course.
The old guys like me try to train and help but the companies are often so determined to "get er dunn", training gets delayed in the interest in completing the project. It is short sighted and reminds me of spreading Bondo over rust. Eventually, the lack of skilled workers is going to be a real problem!

on asphalt as a kid
wasn't the smartest move, but survived
learned how to weld because of it too
after the 3rd or 4th time breaking the bike frame
my stepdad said you need to learn this skill
you'll need it in the future & he was 100% correct

That is a beautiful mater but not at $3 a pop! Something else I would've done is when you got your $9.12 in change back, I'd give her all the bills back plus the $1 you wanted to give her in the first place and tell her to give you the 10 that you originally wanted! I would've then followed up with a, "you need to get your stupid *** back in school and learn some simple math", or some other humiliating comment like that!

more silence and confusion, "I can't do that" she said.....like I was trying to get over in some way.

she hands me back my 1 and then proceeds to give me my 9.12 change.

WTF!!!!!! is everyone fukking retarded? are we really this screwed?

then on the 3 mile drive home, I see not 1, but 2 different Karens driving with windows up, a/c on, alone, while wearing masks!!!!!

after experiencing this, I never want to ever leave my compound again!!!!!!!!

we have absolutely ZERO future...... we are DOOMED!!!!

This crap has been going on for nearly 50 years and maybe longer!! In 74 I let a buddy of mine move in because he needed a place to stay after his dad kicked him out. I was 24 and he was 19 and also a car freak but he was the most stoooopidest person dat I ever met as far as math went! Worst yet is that he never failed a grade and gratiated with his class. Here lately in the past several years, I don't see this kind of stuff happening like I did back then.....

so I just came inside to catch my breath, I was pounding a pipes into the ground for the above mentioned greenhouse. As I was pounding I was thinking (imagine that)

I knew the 10.88 didn't sound right, but I'm not one to make a seen over a few dollars. I just accepted it and paid......... Maybe the price of tomatoes is way up like everything else? what do I know? but I digress......back to the thinking while pounding.....

it occurred to me that if she was too stupid to make change, there is a good chance she is too stupid to charge me the right amount.....hmmmmm

I'm thinking I'm not the only customer she's pissed off......... probably the owners daughter......good luck with that
