which gets me to another rant...... "Stella's Farms" is the go to around here. Awesome corn, cucumbers, maters, ect.; They also sell other things that they do not grow, so there is always something there......it was my first stop today, at 5:15 on a beautiful Friday afternoon; and about 15 miles round trip out of my way...... THEY WERE CLOSED!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!! 3 more dollars!

I'm like "is there a problem?"

she stood there silent with a stupid look on her face

"you can give me a 10 back", I said

more silence and confusion, "I can't do that" she said.....like I was trying to get over in some way.

she hands me back my 1 and then proceeds to give me my 9.12 change.

WTF!!!!!! is everyone fukking retarded? are we really this screwed?

then on the 3 mile drive home, I see not 1, but 2 different Karens driving with windows up, a/c on, alone, while wearing masks!!!!!

after experiencing this, I never want to ever leave my compound again!!!!!!!!

we have absolutely ZERO future...... we are DOOMED!!!!

While headed to the gulf for a fishing
trip, it was customary to stop at a
McDonalds for a quick meal and two
bags of ice. After eating, I went up to
the counter to order and pay for the ice.

I get that change thing all the time, some kids cant count, depend on computer/register to do all the work
When I pumped gas back in 68 it was at a Hess station, one of the first of its kind here on the island....We pumped a huge volume of gasoline. Even back than, the weekends were extremely busy. We had like 6 guys working a shift plus the manager. Only Two guys held money, you had to make change all day long, no register, just take the money, make the change.... Dont come up short at the end of the day as it came out of your pay

Yes. Yes it is. Change is RARELY counted back any more because they CAN NOT DO IT. How many times have you watched someone look at the change drawer for ages trying to figure out what makes 37 cents?!?!!

you’re story made me laugh and reminded me of another young service peraon.

I was at a Dairy Queen that apparently serves food too, and I ordered a vanilla cone. The 16 something year old then asked me “would you like that to go?”

Every chance I get if I have change I’ll wait until the 7/11 person rings it up and I’ll offer the loose change. They usually don’t know what to do as the register says they need to give me change back. It is that bad.

All the same thing - and all NOT being nurtured and honed in our kids' raising anymore,
either by schools or by parents themselves, who don't have any either.

I say it a lot these days to my wife:
"I always thought I'd be gone before "they" took over..."
Nope, still here - and "they" have.
 
Just use your debt card from now on and you won't have to worry about the dumb *** behind the counter. Its really sad what has happened to the youth of America.
 
Fortunately, it isn't all youth here in America. If you actually evaluate your daily experiences in even the retail environment, most of the time you deal with intelligent folks. However, you don't remember them, they don't make an impression on you (good or bad), you only remember the occasional idiot. I'm a firm believer that today's youth are just as intelligent (perhaps even more so) than us old folks who grew up in the '60s, '70s, and '80s. Don't short change the masses of young folks based on a couple morons.

I'm afraid I have to disagree - the sharp ones, the ones who seem on their game and are happy to be there
and take care of customers are the "occasional" ones, at least in my experience.
Oh - and I remember them, not the garden variety dolts who are just there occupying space...
I engage all of them when we encounter them; I like to strike up pleasant chat, make the transaction
a positive thing, let them know we appreciate their efforts.
Unfortunately, most don't even know how to engage like that - or want to.
 
How can you begrudge a girl working at a fruit stand? It was either that or being a telemarketer. Some people have little options for employment. They are the equivalent of stoners from the 70's. At least they were entertaining. This is Dave, Dave's not here.
