Started on 71 Charger R/T roller today.

My friend ordered the outer wheel houses and the trunk extension yesterday. If I have time this weekend I will cut the other rear quarter off.

Today I got the right rear quarter panel cut off the car. I can't tell you how glad I am to see the bad sheetmetal removed from the car, and it headed in the direction of being restored! I thought that I was going to have to hand fabricate the inner rocker panel on the drivers side, but when I removed the passenger's side rear quarter panel I saw that someone had made the trunk extension out of 16 gauge sheetmetal and it is the same shape as the inner rocker panel on the drivers side. I think that I can use this hand made piece and trim it down to fix the inner rocker panel on the other side! Winning!

My AMD order arrived today, it's supposed to be two outer wheel houses and a trunk extension for the passengers side. I also ordered a Dutch panel for my 69 Charger R/T SE. I will tear into the boxes like it's Christmas morning when I get home from work tonight!

The parts are here, and my friend is going to drop off my plasma cutter that he borrowed from me next week. Some sparks are gonna fly soon! There's a 70 Charger R/T V code car under all those parts!

I got back to work on the 71 Charger R/T again, and thanks to getting my plasma cutter back, I was able to cut off the rusty patched up outer wheel house and get the new AMD one installed in a few hours! I have to repair the inner rocker structure between the door and the wheel well next. As I said before the person who fabricated the trunk extension on the right rear, made a nice piece that I think will work perfectly fine to repair the inner rocker structure on the other side. I bought a new trunk extension for the other side so I will be replacing both the trunk extension and the outer wheel house on the passenger's side and repairing the inner rocker structure on that side too,but it is not as bad as the drivers side is.

I was hoping to make some more progress on the R/T,but I was in my storage trailer the other day,and I noticed that the 70 Road Runner convertible I bought a few months ago was starting to get some flash rust on it,so I had to take some time and get that car scuffed and primed Before it gets any worse. The car was blasted to bare metal, then sold by the shop that was working on it. They shipped it bare to my friend, and I bought it from him. I had it wrapped up good, but the moisture was still getting to it. I put a good effort this weekend to getting it sealed up.but it will probably be another week until I get back on the R/T.

Between the cold weather and the work I am doing on the Road Runner convertible project, and the 70 Sixpack Charger R/T, I have put this project on hold. I am still gathering parts for the car,and I am hoping to get back on the car in the spring.

I haven't gotten back to work on the 71 Charger R/T yet,I did have to move it the other day though. Yesterday I got my other 71 Charger R/T out of my friends storage trailer and brought it home. Its a rust free car from the Arizona dessert.

Yes Tom that is the car. I am very pleased with the car, it needs very little work before it is ready to paint. My friend bought the car and brought it back from Arizona to build it for himself, but he found a Sixpack car,so I bought this one from him.

I know that I haven't updated this thread in some time, the car has be put on the back burner for a while but that doesn't mean that I am not gathering up parts for the car so when I do get back to it I can get going seriously on it. So a couple months ago I picked up a 71 Charger SE N code 383 Magnum automatic car and it came with a 72 Plymouth parts car. One of the things that I really needed is a drivers side rocker panel for this 71 Charger R/T that this thread is about. This 72 Plymouth parts is donating its drivers side inner and outer rocker panel to the cause of saving the 71 Charger R/T. I cut the rocker panel out of the donor car yesterday. It looks like a good solid piece and when I get the car back to the shop I will figure out how much of the rocker panel will need to be grafted into the car ,then I can continue working on getting the new rear quarter panels installed on the car.The first picture is the 71 Charger SE that I bought a couple months ago, the second picture is the 72 Plymouth parts car, the third picture is the parts car with the rocker panel cut out of it, the fourth picture is the rocker panel. This piece will put the Charger R/T back on the road to recovery!

I feel your pain, I have had my 71 Charger on a rotisserie for several years and want to get to it but I have to finish some client cars. Hasn't stopped me from buying a ton of parts (like $40K worth)... LOL

I sold the 71 Charger SE today,so I will be bringing the R/T back home to continue working on it.
