Went to Walmart today in Gainesville FL.

People are getting ( not making) more money staying home but this isn't my turn to rant so i'll stop there.

If you don’t like $10 an hour, don’t take the job.

In NJ, minimum wage is $12/hr, going up to $15 by a dollar a year. Why do I have to pay the high school kid who sweeps the floor and takes out the garbage $12/hour? He lives at home with his parents and isn't supporting a family. Mandated minimum wage is why businesses are automating. Why have a cashier when the self checkout is just as good if not better than the employee who isn't reliable and is on their phone half the time????

They either need the job, or are just supplementing their retirement and/or SS pension, as well as maybe getting out of the house and still feel like a productive member of society. I see nothing wrong with that!!!

Do you really think that you are suppose to able to buy a house , a car and rise kids from a job stocking shelves at Walmart?. I will NEVER knock anybody for working any job ,anywhere but i got no time for someone who would rather sit on their *** and watch their neighbor leave for work to pay for their dumb ***.

Maybe they're not smart or skilled enough to get a better paying job. Does that mean that the wage for the only jobs they are qualified should be raised up high enough so they can buy a house? You know who pays for that? Every customer of those stores. Higher costs get passed on to the consumer.

When I needed a higher wage I learned skills that made me more valuable to my employer.... I've always been a hands on technical guy.. But working in the auto trade there was always a pretty low limit to potential earnings... But the skills have other applications.... Learn how to leverage the skills you have and/or improve your skill set... Working stocking shelves just like working the counter at Mc Donalds isn't supposed to qualify you to buy a house.... Sorry it just isn't...

Entry level jobs are not meant to be full-time career jobs. If you are in the 30-40 year old range and are your (lack of) skills are such that all you are worth is 10 bucks an hour to an employer, you've failed.

We all started at minimum wage. It was never intended to be the baseline to support a family, home, etc. Yes, 10/ hour sucks but there are better paying jobs out there for people with a skill. Plenty of assistance is available for those that would like to learn and earn more $$.

The trades can't get enough people. You don't need a 4 year degree to get a good job.

I see signs all the time around this area in front of most every store - McD's offering $12/hr, the manufactured
housing plant up the highway throwing up $25/hr. for some to start, our own local grocery offering $13....
The everyday businesses everyone uses (and expects good prices from) are struggling to keep enough
help on the roster, leading to lower quality service, unstocked shelves, undelivered goods - delays across
the board and nationwide.
The whole system is fed, has always been fed, by young folks entering the job market for the first time and
taking the entry level positions, working themselves either up or out eventually....
and that's just not happening now like it traditionally has.

My grandson has a four year degree. During the last year, jobs were scarce and the only thing he could find was putting in septic systems. Now it seems jobs are more plentiful, but he says he's going to stick with what he's doing. Go figure.

Read this again. It explains a lot.

Our wally's typically has 1-2 live (?) cashier lanes and has added a whole new corral of "scan and go" lanes in addition to the one not labeled as such.
The only difference i can see it they have tethered scanner guns.

Interestingly they also have 2-3 "regular" lanes with conveyors, but no cashier.

No one seems to notice this and they are usually vacant or have one shopping party checking out while the corrals have lines of 15-20 people waiting.

Agree about Rural King.

My last R134 purchase was $3.99 per can. I was amazed and should have bought more than the 4 cans.

40 grain .22 rounds were also on sale for $4.99. Should have bought more of those as well.
