So it all started with me wanting to mount a 3-3/8" Auto Meter tachometer in my column shifted 69 Road Runner. I bought the Auto Meter #5204 Gauge Mounting Cup, but unless you want to drill holes in the top of your pristine dash, the Auto Meter mount is not a very accommodating solution. So, I turned to my friend who happens to have a CNC machine in his garage. Together, we engineered a column mounted stand-off bracket that requires no drilling and clears the shifter perfectly. Here's our first prototype:

Nice work, A+ With a column shift the whole thing is much more difficult than it appears.

Very nice piece and suggest a concern for quality in your build !

Great idea and design just go ahead and whittle one out for me while it’s fresh on your mind:thumbsup:

Agreed. A fella might get a few of those sold if he got to entrepreneurin'.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I literally picked it up yesterday and loosely attached it to my column. Next up I need to get the tach installed to make sure everything is good there. I also plan on getting some button head bolts in favor of the socket head bolts my buddy threw in for a more streamlined look. I'll also probably spray some satin black paint on it to match the cup and make it look more finished and less raw. If everything goes as planned perhaps I'll try and find some beta testers to do some field testing?

Again, this bracket is specifically designed to work with the Auto Meter #5204 Gauge Mounting Cup kit and Auto Meter 3-3/8" Tachometers. So folks will need to buy that to make this work. That's what I need for my application so that's what I have. Alright, I'll keep everyone posted on the project.

I love the old school approach. We mounted sun super tach likewise on our cars back then. Actually, in your case, slightly more centered, since the left side of the speedo on that type dash was irrelevant. To us, anyway :D

I used a small block of wood (about 1 1/4 inch by 3/4) as a spacer.

A bit fiddly to get all three things lined up and still tighten the clamp at the same time but you can't even see the wood once it's tightened down.
