On original unrestored 71 Chargers, they often had blackout paint on the lower rocker flange, and the pinchweld lip that hangs down on the front of the hood. My question is was this done with a brush, or was it sprayed? My car had one repaint, and the blackout is showing through, but it's difficult to make out whether it was brushed or sprayed.

It always looked like a brush, my car was unrestored when I bought it. I redid it with a brush.
The core and hood latch support where sprayed.

I saw that a place in Denver, Colorado called Soneff’s Master garage, has a 71 RT listed as an original survivor and he has pictures of the car, and someone might be able to show you closer pictures. Looks like they do a ton of Mopar restoration work.

Soneffs.com,
Search under inventory, green 71 RT N96, automatic, console rubber bumper car.

Anyone else have any info about the rocker pinchweld blackout? Was it brushed on, or sprayed? E bodies had it too

Hemi68charger over on Moparts

On his survivor 1971 when I talked to him years ago

I think his name is Troy

No problem... And if you want to be as close to OEM as possible, the blacked out treatment on the hood's leading edge AND the rocker pinch was actually done with a brush. On my survivor, I could still see the brush marks..

On my project cars, the black out looks sprayed. No trace of brush marks. and the front hood lip blackout seems to have a nice straight edge along the hood skin, so it appears to have been masked when done, but not certain

My original on my 72 looked brushed on, but I used spray paint when re-doing.
