My 74 Rallye Charger. B5 blue body, blue interior, black side stripe (not installed yet) and a canopy vinyl top. When I bought the car in 1987, it had a black vinyl top. The fender tag calls for a white top. I'm to the point where I need to make a decision. I painted the car this past summer. I painted the canopy top area black so my grandson could see what a black top looks like. I'm trying to decide what to do. I actually painted the black with an orange peel finish to simulate a black top. I may paint it a white orange peel finish so he can see that. The vinyl top runs about $300 plus shipping. The car will be driven, not a trailer queen. White is hard to keep clean. Should I go original or not? Thanks. As a side note, I have another 74 Charger that I plan on painting it like I want it, not original. I'm posting photos of the Rallye fender tag and the most recent photo of the Rallye.

Black.

White...eh. probably not with all the black stripes. Is it the only part not original??? Maybe if EVERY thing is original...but still like black.

A black top and the wheels are the only items on body not matching. Engine is numbers matching but not transmission. I thought about just buying the white canopy top (V4W on tag right?) and storing it and leaving the black painted top. To install the stainless drip rails then, I would need to glue some vinyl strips on the roof rain gutters for a tight fit.

I like the white. This is a model of how I want my 72 to look when it's finished. I already bought the canopy top in pearl white for it:thumbsup:

I like your painting of the top idea to see how it looks. Then you will know what you like.

also it’s very hot and sunny where you live and the car has no A/C so the white will make that a bit better

Black. Gotta go with black. Think it goes better with the blue.

I like the black accent, it goes with the other black accents. But then there’s the - is that how it came factor?

Black would look better IMO
White is ‘correct’ for that car.

Tough call.

White will pop with the blue! It’s all up to you.

I vote white, for the same a/c reason as mentioned above. Black gonna get HOT inside!

Look into cleaners/sealers; you can keep white clean, even on a "driver". Dad had a white landau top on a Cutlass when I was growing up, and swore by Westley's Bleche-Wite cleaner. That, and Comet Cleanser - white top, whitewalls/white letter tires...he kept 'em ALL spotless (he was also a Navy Commander - they know how to keep stuff CLEAN). Clean it with the Westley's/Comet, dry, and coat with Armor-All to get the shine back.

Another vote for white. Not only is it correct to the tag, that look is "in" right now. It will look sharp.

I vote for white. I had a B5 72 SE with a white top. I always liked how bright and clean it looked.

White with white interior. Black with black.

Once to go black, you'll never go back. Unless you go white, to make it right. The rest of the car is beautiful blue. What you put on top, is up to you.

I had a car coded for a white top but built with a black top.... And there was no chance I would change it to white... You car, your choice, I think the black complements the stripes...
