Hello from Germany,

I hope someone can help me out. I rebuilt a A727 a couple of months ago. (Behind a 440). New bands, plates, checked all clearances etc. After 500 km, the pan was dropped, and what looks like iron filings were in the pan. The transmission makes no noise, and shifts fine.

Thanks for any insight on this.

If it’s running OK I would just clean the pan out and install a new filter and drive it. Could be a problem or just some parts wearing in with maybe some poor rebuild hygiene and parts preparation by the builder. It wouldn’t take much that in the valve body to cause issues so hopefully it all got caught by the filter.

In my opinion that is excessive wear for your low miles of use. What made you drop the pan?

Are you using a new or remanufactured converter or an old one with an unknown history?

As already mentioned, is it an old used torque converter? Flushed out the transmission lines? Trans cooler flushed out and cleaned?

Well...I did the rebuild, the customer supplied the converter. I am suspecting junk from the converter.

Some of that debris looks like aluminum. Did you check it with a magnet?
Mike

Steel comes from torque converter or rear sprag clutch. Pretty well everything else in a Torqueflight is aluminum.
