440 rattle at cold startup

Pls elaborate on procedure. Does it matter where the lifter is on the cam profile?

Stock 1.5 stamped rockers.

Wondering if a change of oil viscosity might help?
I dont think it's the oil , but that's a fair guestion.
What kind and weight does the engine have in it.
If it's some exotic synthetic light weight , who knows?
To my old ears though , it just sounds like a lifter or 2 bouncing around.
We have seen steel stamped rockets on here with holes clear through the rod cup, ect ect.
Just need to get those covers off and check all while its stone cold.

Brad Penn 15W-40. I'll pull the covers, look for any issues, then check each lifter with cam on base circle. Assuming I find a bad lifter or 2, should I replace all 16 and do a cam break in?

Good oil in it that's good.
The last few years there has been some real crap lifters out there.
If it turns out that the prob is lifters just swaping the bad ones could fix it.
They may just have crap , metal ect in them.
Comp have had a rep for some bad lifters for awhile.
If you locate some collapsed ones pull them and take them apart see what's inside.

Appreciate responses, I'll try to answer q's...

To be candid, don't really know for sure. Have a call in to Lunati, see what they have to say.

Yes, SRP 213455 10.5:1 forged flat tops.

Overnight, it will rattle next day. Have noticed it sitting at car show for 6hrs.

No, welded open.

No. Have had that happen before...much different racket.

Unlikely, noise is coming from engine.

Definite rattle, pressure comes up immediately.

As noted, stealths don't have sufficient clearance in the pushrod cavity to fish out the lifters. I had to enlarge a couple cavities just to fit 3/8" pushrods. Cold startup video:

I think it is a bad lifter, it sounds like it is leaking down.

Finally got back to this. Valve covers off. #8 exhaust rocker has approx .03" play closed, a couple others are loose, tho not quite as much. Looks like I'll need to pull the intake, check the lifters and/or replace them. If I replace all 16, should I do a full break-in 2K rpm for 20min? Should I stay with orig manufacturer (Lunati) or try another brand?

Update. Decided to try longer pushrods, more preload, option first. Live close to Manton Pushrods, so talked to them and decided to add additional .035" preload (total .065"). Installed the longer pushrods and fired it up. There was some valvetrain noise, more like clicking, definitely not the clatter. Drove it around the block, noise went away. Next several cold startups, no noise. Problem solved, at least for now.
