Should I buy this project 1969 Charger?

Just wanted to get everyones opinion on buying this car. Original 318, no motor or trans, and clean title. He is asking $7500. Don't really know more than that, I am going to look at it this afternoon and will hopefully learn more.

Do you get the gold parts car behind this one too? Looks like the main one will keep you busy for a good while. Hope you get it. Ive seen alot less up here for alot more

For me? There isn't enough there. Plus consider you really need to know '69 Chargers to start barebones type build? It's not like a car you disassembled. You do not have a reverse roadmap for reassembly and/or parts replacement.
 
That's the asking price. If you are doing this because you love mopars and are doing it as a hobby, add about $40,000 to the asking price and that will get you close to having a very nice collector car that you drive and enjoy. Mine had all the pieces, spent $10750 for a Az. car that didn't have a bit of rust and I'm closing in on the $40,000 all-in mark, 5 1/2 years since I bought it. I have no regrets, have enjoyed the journey, but it can get very frustrating at times. Good Luck.
 
That looks like the parts car for the other Charger in the background. Damn buddy, there's a lot of work to make a running driving car there. Probably what he needs to get the other one going. I'd keep looking and I'm a decent metal worker. 440'

Looks like the back section is completely missing as well.
 
40K won't restore that one. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but you need to get a fairly accurate guess in your mind as to what you will spend and if it is worth it to you.
 
If I was "All in?" I would certainly consider a performance restomod build? It's actually easier than attempting a "Back to original?" With A LOT more options than can actually keep price down. And in the end? A lot more fun than a stock 318 build?

This is just my opinion of course.
 
Hard pass for me...but I'm picky. That's probably why I don't have a 2nd gen charger! Prices on those are WAY too high, if they ever come down to earth I'll buy one.
 
Sadly all the 2nd gen charger proyects are skyrocketing this days, all the body parts are available, at a price, looks pretty bad, but it's a charger and all chargers worth saving, at a price of course and it's not cheap at all, if you buy it good luck with the car.:thumbsup:

Wheres the *** end? You will have about $8k - $10k in AMD steel and several rolls of wire welded into that one before it's a restorable car. What's there looks pretty straight. Its what's whiz wheeled off of it that's troubling. Not every sheetmetal part for this car is made either. A lot of the smaller pieces are not made. So either source those from another donor, of fabricate yourself if you know the dimensions, what they look like, and are capable of fabricating these parts.

If you're expecting this to be cheap, you're in for a rude surprise. There are a lot of good posts on this forum on how to do things yourself so if you like working on things like this, that is one of the best tools you can have. If you're going to have a shop do it, BEWARE.
 
A serious assessment of your automotive talents and your bank account are in order. It’d be a real shame to invest two or three years and 20,000 dollars only to get discouraged and loose interest. Double the time you think it will take and add 50 percent to the cost. If you decide to go ahead with this project, the best of luck to you, it is doable.

I don't know how old you are and in my opinion, that really doesn't matter. What matters is if you are willing to do things yourself. I'm a moron and found out I can do a lot of work on a car and learned how to do things I'd never done before like polishing stainless, restoring seats, etc. The people on this forum are very helpful and supportive so feel free to post questions. There's a LOT of experience here. I save my money for those things I can't do like restore windshield wiper motors, AC parts (although I am rebuilding/restoring an AC heater box) carburetors, steering gear boxes, alternators, starter motors, blah blah blah. I paid a professional clown to put my headliner in and he muffed it. So I'll be learning how to do that for next time. That can happen, pay a lot for a clown job you could probably do better yourself.
