After laying 14,000 feet under the Atlantic for 44 years, Jeff Bezos recovered Saturn V rocket boosters from the Apollo 11 launch. After three minutes of perfect operation, these mighty engines had done their job and were jettisoned.

Back in the 60s and early 70s when Chrysler had a Space Division. Pics from the Michoud Assembly Facility, 43 acre building in New Orleans, Louisiana. Chrysler occupied half the building and Boeing the other half.

The Canadarm.
Canadarm-2-NASA-photo.jpg

Designed and built in Canada for the Space Shuttle, the manipulator arm was used for 90 missions between 1981 and the Shuttle retirement in 2011. It was able to handle masses as high as 266,000 kilograms in space and position them accurately where needed.

It was built by SPAR Aerospace, a company formed from the Special Products division of de Havilland Canada and the Applied Research unit from AVRO Canada, hence the name. Among the companies history, Special Products designed and built Canada's first satellite, the Alouette 1 in 1962 to study the ionosphere, allowing Canada to be the third country behind the USSR and USA to manufacture a satellite. That satellite is defunct but still in orbit.

An improved design was built for use on the ISS, the Canadarm2.

The robotics division was sold off to MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates in 1999, who still maintain the arm.
