73 Roadrunner 340 Auto

Cleaned up the original brake components. Will change out the 50 year old springs and keep trucking forward.

Over 40 years ago I changed brake shoes all the time, for my friends, and had fun doing it. Not so much fun today! Amazing what you forget when you haven't done it in a long long time. Took a few minutes spinning the mental rolodex to figure it all out again.

Just stopped in, and looking good as always, did you use a brass wire wheel on bench top grinder to clean the filler neck on gas tank plus a lot of other parts or did you use something else? Again, thank you for the update with all those pictures.

Just a regular old wire wheel on the filler neck. Most of the other parts were soaked in Evapo-rust for a day or so. Just make sure to keep it warm as the stuff wont work when it gets too cold. On heavy rusted metal parts, that had no rubber or soft metal parts, they took a short bath in (31.45% HCL) Muriatic Acid. Parts were neutralized with a baking soda solution, rinsed, treated with RPM, and then hit with a coat of matte clear; or primed, and painted with several coats of color, and then a matte clear top coat.

Here is the start:
Heads are at the speed shop being done
Just pulled the crank. Mic'd it and it is like new but still going to have it polished before the weekend
All the parts for the rebuild have arrived. The block is in GREAT shape (almost no taper and out of round is next to nothing). Just need to break the glaze and restore the crosshatch for the new rings. Carb is at Woodruff's and should be done soon.
New cam with a little longer duration to let it "breath" a little better. New fuel, oil, and water pumps along with all new bearings and seals. New double roller timing chain and sprockets. Oh yeah, new lifters too. Okay, pretty much everything is new.

Got the 1/4 window seals installed (that was no fun at all, even with lube) and found time to blast the exhaust manifolds. Still need to work on those a little more.

Just got the crank back. It checked out fine with Std rod and Std mains. Cleaned up nice.

My way of installing the front spring bushing. And YES, I have a press but this was faster and easier.

I was going to hang the fenders and such but forgot that I can't do it until it is off the rotisserie, so I moved on to finishing the rear end. The bar thru the back eye hooks was to keep everything aligned and square until I got all the u-bolts tight.

With a little help from the wife; okay, a lot of help from the wife; fine already, I could not have done it with out her help, the rear end is back where it belongs. Slowly getting more room in the shop.

Nice! What did you use for the rear sway bar bushings?
 
I got a NOS pair off e-bay but for the pair it was almost $70 but I could not find the square ones anywhere else cheaper. :(
