Hello and thank you to all who have unknowingly offered up solutions to the problems I have encountered so far over the past couple months. As a novice Mopar owner, I would have most likely hacked up what is a very solid restoration build that I purchased a couple months ago in its early stages of reassembly. After trailering home a truckload of boxes, a block, transmission and a beautifully painted 72 Charger shell I soon realized I needed help. This car was not originally a bb car, didn’t come from the factory with the 4 speed manual gearbox that was included in the sale, the airgrabber hood was an absolute mystery and the hideaway headlights didn’t have the proper harness in the car to make them operate.....not to mention all the other hundreds of pieces that need to be cleaned, painted, repaired, etc.
I’ve always been drawn to the 68-70 cars (like most everybody else) and knew I’d never be able to afford buying a project car and the cost of all the rare parts so my wife and I started looking at the 71-74s and came across what was soon to be my bright yellow 72.
It is currently being prepped to receive a rebuilt 440 (out of a 71 charger) and a 4 speed (76 truck box). The previous owner converted the car to a pistol grip bench seat car with a tach and the airgrabber hood apparently looking to build the car into the Rallye package offered in or around that year.
As I take over the build I look forward to reaching out to the members for thier expertise as I work my way through the boxes and boxes of loose parts and missing pieces as well as sharing my solutions when I manage to stumble across answers to problems.
I think I am most excited about learning all about the Mopar hobby and visiting events such as Chrysler’s at Carlisle and seeing all the brightly colored cars and meeting thier owners. It was time for a new challenge and I definitely found one.
