My transmission was rebuilt then sat for 20 years or so. It has a cheetah reverse manual valve body and a 2800 stall converter. The problem is that when i put it into reverse and 1st gears it doesnt want to go into gear. If you rev it long enough or high enough it will jump into gear and drive. When i come to a stop it seems like it is out of gear and jumps back in gear when i give it some gas. Around 1500rpm. Fluid level is good. Bands were just adjusted. Any suggestions? I am wondering if its a low pressure problem and if so does that mean my pump is bad? Thanks in advance for any advice.

For most of us these cars are not driven daily. They will drain back, and they will not "pump" in Park. Put it in neutral, give it a minute. Put it back in park. , check your fluid level

Also check for kinked cooler lines etc. Sounds like it could be a fluid restriction.

I have a Cheetah RMVB and cold you need to give it some gas. Warmed up, it engages in both forward and reverse. The model I have also goes neutral in first gear once you lift. Gotta plug it into second or come nearly a complete stop for 1st again. Designed that way.

What’s going on between the front band apply lever and the valve body? The rear band looks to be way to tight. Do the other gears apply good. Probably got a torn lip seal in the front drum or on the rear servo. Kim
