If we're talking Ca compliant. Beretta PX4 Storm. Got a couple of hundred rounds thru it. It's pretty nice. Pic is a size comparison to a Glock 22.

If you have small hands, like I do, this is nice. Mine is a .40 S&W.
It is very easy to operate, which is why it's a favorite for personal, home defense. It comes in different calibers, 9x19mm, .45 ACP, and .40 S&W.

I live here cause I've lived here so long I'm like a frog in a pot on the stove..... And momma frog is right here with me...
I can understand that. I live in Maryland - not California...but not too far off, in a lot of ways.

But...moving sucks. A LOT. And, I really love my house - and my garage!

Perhaps...a vacation with mama, to a desired locale? Just...as a covert experiment? :D

@Ironbuilt : You asked, ya gots opinions: SSSOOO, ya gonna buy it or not son!! Lets see, how did that saying go?? "**** AND GET OFF THAT POT BOY"!! It's not like you gotta jump through 50 hoops like us up here in JEERRRZZZEEE

Funny this pistol is subject. Other than a 1911. This is the only other .45 I've had a chance to shoot. Not sure I'm a fan of the prp trigger. And like the 1911? It's a little bulky for carry and conceal.
If the 1911 is your choice (as is mine), the Colt Defender is an excellent choice. Small, easily concealable and no problem gripping it with large hands.

Barrel: 3-in., stainless steel
Overall Length: 6.75 in.
Overall Height: 5.125 in.
Overall Width: 1.25 in.
Weight: 24 oz. (unloaded)

I am heading over there in a few minutes, I am just waiting for my better half to get ready. :D

You will be happy with it.
I've had and shot a couple.
Much easier to shoot .45 than 1911 recoil wise.
The 1911 is probably the greatest pistol ever made, but is old technically, and in my opinion only experts should carry it.
XD is much easier to handle all around.

I was wondering if somebody could enlighten me about something
The 45 which I believe is a 1911 Colt? I shoot at the range while I was with the armoured unit as a M60 driver had some kick to it.
The rounds looked bigger than some of the 45 rounds I see here and yet some of you have said that the 45 doesn't kick much.
Which hand gun did I fire in the service and what model was that. We did have the M16 rifle but nothing newer as I recall.
NYC is very hard to get a target permit for a handgun, some complain about New Jersey but depending on what county I found out through a buddy it wasnt difficult at all . I have no idea about Ca but it has to be easier than here

You most likely shot a 1911 which shoots a .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) round. There is also a .45 Long Colt that is typically used in a revolver. The 1911 was standard in the US military until the mid 80's (1985 actually) when it was replaced with the M9 Beretta in 9mm which was just replaced with the M17 which is a Sig Sauer P320 variant.

It may be possible you shot a SW M10 in .38 special which were around for a long time but not real likely.

I have a U.S. Government issued Colt 1911. It has a kick to it, but you probably won't find a more reliable handgun. It's well over 50 years old and has never jammed, stove-piped, nothing. My uncle, who served in Vietnam (1969-1971) told me that the tolerances in the Govt. issued 1911's were purposely loose so that even if dropped in a mud puddle, it would shoot. He was a grunt and more badass than I could ever dream of being, so I tend to believe him. LOL
The problem that I have with my 1911 is it's too big and heavy to carry concealed.
As for NJ, a hunting rifle isn't that hard to purchase. A handgun, that's another story. My business partner when I owned the gym applied for a carry permit. The restrictions and hoops that he had to jump through were ridiculous!! They wanted him to prove that he carried large sums of business generated cash on a daily basis to justify needing to carry a firearm.
My cousin, who retired from the NJ State Police after 25 years of service, can not legally carry a firearm in NJ.

The 1911 is iconic and I think everyone should have one just because (I have like 9 of them in one form or another) but I agree that they are too heavy and bulky to carry concealed. There was a time when I carried one concealed but there are much better options now.

I'd love to get a 1911 because....1911. I was actually searching for one when I snagged my Hellcat - they had the Hellcat, had zero 1911's. And, mid-2020 (riots, "pandemic", etc)...capacity matters for my EDC. Factory 11 and 13 round mags, and now a 15 round extended? Hell yeah. And, full-mag to full-mag, it's LIGHTER than my XD-S!

But one day I'll spring for a 1911.

Right now, my "iconic" pistol might be (maybe) a 1951 Colt 4" Official Police .38 revolver that dad carried as a personal backup in Korea (4 campaigns - Cdr.USN/Ret).

Maybe.

My first .45 said: Property of the United States. It was in WWI and it shot crazy. One, two, right on target, then it would sling one into the weeds. Took it to a gunsmith and he speculated that it was the front bushing. That fixed it, it was accurate and consistent. Could get BH Ammo for 10 cents a round and I shot the hell out of that gun. Started shooting long range in the Badlands and at 400 yards, I learned where it would land. Like being a kid with a a BB gun again.

I have the exact one and I
I am considering a Springfield Armory XD(M) 45ACP

Love it!!! Dbl Stack, smooth, and accurate. Easy to tear down for cleaning and any repairs. Basically I use it for if and when I need to Armour Up with it rather than for CCW. Not cheap and not expensive. Prefer it over a Glock, Sig, or S&W. Get it and you won't be disappointed!!! cr8crshr/Bill:thumbsup::usflag::usflag::usflag:

Now that I see you have it before I posted this, great pick. Enjoy the use...cr8crshr/Bill:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::usflag::usflag::usflag:

Maybe I should keep my recommendations to myself....we know how that worked out...................Springfield armory has a good reputation and I always see good reviews. When it comes to a 45acp I like my 1911A1 but in 9mm I love my Sig P226 mk25, best handgun I have ever owned.
Sigs are always Sigs.
