Cash vs. Check

The best way to get around the SAR is not to deposit anything but put it in your private safe and then spend it little by little on big ticket items etc. So, a newbie coming here to shake us down.....are you an IRS spy? :D

Ha. No, not at all. I'm new to this forum but I've been collecting cars for about 35 years. My addiction to cars is not with one particular brand. I like them ALL. That's a problem. On the flip side, I don't like golf and I think sports are kind of silly.

I've bought many cars and bikes over the years (TOO many). I think we're all pretty lucky to be the keepers of our cars. To be fair, that's what we are - The Keepers. We don't really own them, they own us!! That's not a bad thing, we could all be doing worse!!

I sold something the other day for 6K. Apparently 2 guys were partners on the deal. One brought the 1/2 the asked for cash, the other had a check. I sent him down the road to come back with cash, before it left. If I'm asked for a price it's a cash price.

Cash is king for now and let’s hope it stays that way.. screw this idea of one world currency and bit coin etc... If your in our country you do it our way!

Wonder what Richard Rawlings from Gas Monkey Garage thinks about using cash.

Is there a story behind that? Only watched program once or twice. A local guy to me sold RR the 1st and 2nd Firebirds made. RR screwed him some, MO.

Never really particularly cared for RR's demeanor. I hear he's kinda the same off air.....

Apparently most of his buys are cash. He’s done some bank transfers on “big” purchases, but seems most payments to sellers are stacks of cash.

Last month sold my daily driver to who I think may have been drug dealers from the south. Drove up in a challenger hellcat...little english. 16K in small bills in a bag, only about 1500 in 100's. And the she was definitely not a pole dancer who saved her tip money for the car.

I'm no Richard Rawlings but I'd far rather do business with cash. I just kinda wondered what you guys thought of cash vs. checks. The consensus seems to be cash (which i figured would be the case). Are there any more thoughts about a cash discount?

I agree with a penalty for anything other than cash. It happens all the time with PayPal, somewhere between 3&4%.

You never get anywhere near the 28 percent it cost you to take it out of the bank( pay taxes on) .I would personally give or also expect to give me some money off but i doubt it would be much more than 5-10 percent max. Also under $9900 deposits used to work but once there is a pattern detected it's game on. Cars, trucks, boats even classic ones are thought of a a depreciating assets and kind of "go away" after 8-10 years. Some folks will ask for maybe 25 percent in a check and the rest cash, that way there is a paper trail but it doesn't hurt you, but may help you.
