Finally had the first successful cruise around town and got plenty of thumbs up. Felt great to finally do this after working on it for a year and two months. It took a while to get used to the 727 transmission with no overdrive. My other vehicle is a 2014 Silverado. My only complain was as I was about four blocks away from my house. The transmission seemed to be stuck on first gear and would not shift to second gear. I felt if shifting early on, and could easily tell when it would go into second and third. Then downshift as I came to a stop. The drive lasted about half an hour and the max speed I went to was bout 45 mph. I checked the fluid before I left with engine on and in neutral and it was correct.

Is there and adjustment I need to do to the transmission to prevent this on the next drive? Thank you in advance.

Make sure you have your linkage setup correctly pump pressure is controlled by the linkage off the carb. Otherwise known as kick down linkage. At Wide open throttle the rod on the transmission should be all the way back. And at idle should have the back side of the slotted opening resting on the throttle pin. If the pump is not functioning correctly it will act weird.

Sounds like you need to check the trans throttle lever adjustment. Make sure the linkage returns all the way forward, sometimes a return spring is needed.

Are the trans throttle lever adjustment and kickdown linkage adjustment referring to the same thing? Or is there a separate adjustment only for the lever where it mounts to the transmission?

Watch the video I posted it explains how to adjust both.

Yes I saw it, thank you for that. it explains a lot. I just went out and checked my linkage and it seems like its working as they explain on the video. One thing I noticed is that is still have the original rod which connects to the carburetor stud. Originally my car had a 2 barrel carburetor and I changed to an edelbrock 4 barrel. I did get the correct bracket that mounts to the intake which allows me to connect the throttle cable. However, I never thought about changing the rod, which not that I look at it, mounts at an angle. It should be like the once on the picture below. Any suggestions where I can find one?

Check on ebay or post a WTB ad in the classifieds here. I'm sure someone has one.

If you initially had satisfactory shift points from the time you took it out, and only noticed that it won't come out of first when you were close to returning home, I doubt it's an adjustment issue since it would have probably given the same symptom from the start. It's possible the governor could be sticking, a valve in the VB, or kickdown band malfunction, just a few things that come to mind. Was the trans completely rebuilt?

I have those two items installed already as shown on the picture. Purchased them from Summit. My concern is that the rod sits at an angle as viewed from above. I have been driving the car more frequently and it seems ok. I would just like to get the correct rod that has the bend to align it properly.

Compare your setup to factory. Notice how your rod (12) is installed in the bellcrank.
