Have a chance to pick up a 493 stroker for a fair price, problem is with my heads it would be a paltry 9.2. I spent a good amount of time talking to Hughes about cam profiles and one that could make a bunch of low end grunt 600 (<4500) and be north of 550.
Was kind of wanting something similar to R Bartons build back in the early 2000s. Of course het had about 1.5 pts more and his Eddy heads were "mildly ported". The cam was a Comp .575 & 268° @ .050.
The best Hughes could come up with on their calculator would give me around 530tq & 450hp... I WANT MORE!!!
The other thought is that at a good price would it behoove me just to buy new listings that would get me at the 10.5 and using my old roller would net me 630tq/ 580hp..
What are your thoughts? I know IQ and DVW have posted some low compression builds but nothing that was really similar respectively
Would anyone be in the market for a set of Ross -21.5cc pistons?

Are there any heads on it now and what kind is there a cam in it and what's the spec

What heads are "your" heads and what application, street, strip, daily driver?

No cam, he wants to keep it, it was smallish anyway, no heads from him. Mine are OTB Eddy RPM 84cc.
The car is a street car 95%, maybe 4 % some short highway trips.May go to the track 2-3 time per year.
D60- 3.73, 3000 , not worried about vacuum, have hydroboost, its also mini tubbed.

My 500 stroker was around 9.25:1 with ported 452 heads. The cam was a hydraulic roller 236/242. It made 550 HP and 610 TQ on the engine dyno. I later changed to 84 cc Eddie heads, and picked up a couple of tenths. Never had it back on the dyno but I figured it was at least 575 HP. My opinion, just run it.

I could live with that, any work on your heads? Do you have your dyno sheet? what did you torque curve look like if you don't mind sharing?!?!?
Thanks

The 452's were home ported and flowed about 250 CFM. The Eddie's were port matched and opened up a bit in the pushrod pinch. I just cleaned up any sharp edges in the bowls, but never flowed them. I will see if I can get a picture of the dyno sheet

Hughes likely did something wrong in there hp figures.
[email protected] w edy heads in a 493 is not 450hp unless you pull a plug wire off.

Not sure how easy this is to read, but over 500 ft/lb of torque from 2500 to 5500 rpm.

My 496 stroker w 440 Source heads at 10.5 is 610hp @ 5,200 an 670 to at crank. I can't see a 150 hp drop for 1.25 cr drop. My build is almost identical to the "Mopar for the Masses" build but 496 and hydraulic roller.

As others have said, run it... It'll make more steam than Hughes is saying & it'll run on what ever fuel you find, thats not such a bad thing....

That was the cam they installed in the Barton "Long Arm Wedge" article
They asked what type of cam I wanted , I did not have a preference and from an economic stand point the offered up their SEH3642BL I believe, I wrote it down and left it on my desk.
I was looking at it two ways , purchase a roller if I could get in the neighborhood of where I wanted with that compression, or buy new pistons to get the compression up and use my stick. I also have a brand new K kit for an XE275Hl sitting on the shelf.

That ( octane) was a big plus in my book. I guess Hughes may be a little off from what I'm hearing here.

That low end torque is what I'm looking for, not a 7000 rpm 750 hp screamer.

Believe me, that kind of torque will keep a grin on your face

450HP is ridiculous, they made a mistake. I would run it as well, mill the heads if it will make you sleep better. Another option would be to punt those heads and get a set of TF240's. They're supposed to be 78CC, maybe mill those a bit too.

I bet! This thing has some good parts, Its been sitting a while but has been in a conditioned space covered.
Mopar Performance forged 4.15 crank, Manley 7.685 rods, Ross forged pistons, ATI dampner. Also the oil passages have been opened up to 9/32, will require external pick up.

It sounds like the short block is pretty good, even with low CR pistons. I'm sure your heads are worth a fair amount. Smaller chamber heads to boost the CR may be a good option. You could just bolt on the EDE's and see if it meets your needs.
