Slick Cross Section Wider Than Spec

Tread width on these is 10.25". There is no "W" on the tire size marking.

I have run MT 28x10.5-15 slicks on this car before, with 15x10 rims and 5.0 backspace, and I don't remember it being a real close fit.

These rims have a 5.5 backspace, but if the tire was exactly 11.9 CS, it should fit.

I guess it is probably what HEMI-ITIS said, wider rims than what is listed in the catalog.

The 1/2 inch increase in backspace is the primary cause of your problem
Easily fixed with wheel spacers.
I much prefer too much backspace than too little. With the right spacers i can get the tire exactly where i want it.

How does a tire not increase section width with a wider rim? My experiance is exactly what Doug posted.
Been running the same size tire on my cuda since 2001. They have a 14" cross section with my old 10" rims , the same when I started running 12" rims and found no difference with the new 12.'5's. the only change is the sidewalls are less round and ea time I got a wider rim the contact patch was better. Wish I had gotten 13's.

Now if the section width was smaller than the wheels I can see it being pushed out further (which may happen when I run the radials, and hopefully so)but when the section width is wider than the rim I haven't ran into what you described.

I tried 3/8 spacers, it looks like I will have room.
The hubs are really thick on the wheels (Weld Rodlites), and I still want to have enough thread in the nuts.

Everything i race has 3" studs, at least, front and rear. That habit goes back to the early pizza cutter rims, both centerlines and original super tricks. They both had at least 1 1/2 thick centers for strength with a very narrow wheel, and they simply were not safe without long studs.

I have 3" long studs, front and back

Got the 3/8 spacers and it gives me about 3/16 to the spring, and 1/2" stud past the wheel hub.
The 35 spline axles I installed with the spool stuck out about 1/8 farther on the left side so that helped a bit too.
I'll give them a try like this.
