Guys, I am just breaking in my rebuilt 413.
This is a pic of the oil pan with 6 quarts of water in it. The water is just below the front ledge.
Oil system is stock except for a Melling HV pump (I reused my old one.)
Full groove mains, 15w-50 Driven oil.
Pressure is good, 70psi at 3k, 35-40 at idle.
I installed a warning light that is supposed to come on at 20 psi, but seems like it is lighting up at 30+.
I made a few runs to 5k today and I thought I saw it flicker in 3rd. Pressure gauge looked ok, but I was kinda busy.
Do you think it would help to put another quart of oil in.

At least get one with baffles! I uncovered my pickup on a hard stop one day......no baffles means no control of the slosh. And what are you running for bearing clearances for the 50wt oil?

Saw a video on YouTube from garage 54 .
And they built a transparent oil pan and valve cover, to see what happens to the oil when the engine is running. I was amazed how low the oil level was at idle and even lower at higher rpms! It was almost empty! So it looked like adding extra oil would work ok. But a deeper pan would be a better solution. I just bought a larger capacity pan for my 69 charger.

Oil pans work better when they are on the engine. Find a baffled oil pan...i mean one with a baffle.
And, as questioned earlier, 50wt? Why?

Clearances are .003 main and .0022 rods.
I guess I'm a little paranoid about low oil pressure.

I broke in the cam with 15w-40, and I didn't like how low the pressure got at idle when the oil was hot.

I'd highly recommend to watch
Engine Masters
Season 5 Episode 3, 'Pantastic News'
it covers pretty much of those type questions

you're better off running it a 1/2 qt low
then to overfill it
always run a windage tray,
& oil should never be above any windage tray, ever

there's a few more that cover oil pan selection too
it's $$$ well spent
especially if you're going to thrash/beat on it

Too much oil and it will aerate/ foam and you will actually lose pressure at rpm.

I was told that Max would put 6 quarts of oil in the valve covers at full throttle. I put on a windage tray and a Milodon pan. And I notched the pan not the K member.

6 quarts of oil in the valve covers at wot is pure bull ****.

The guy who told me that raced a record holding factory lightweight Max Wedge back in the day so I'm willing to go with him. Sorry.
