This is a USAF V-22 search and rescue vertical t/o, horizontal flight parked in the middle of the "terrazo" at the USAF Academy. Two flew in, picked up a (practice) survivor of a (combat) ejection and bugged out, flying past the admiring crowd. The occasion was my 50th graduation reunion, and the V-22 was part of a very loud, coordinated - not airshow - rescue exercise. Up over the rampart range, the TAC controllers, 2 x A-10 Wart Hogs directed, one painted in D Day stripes! 4 x F-35 were the suppression a/c, and high over the battle scene, 2x F-22. Not coincidentally, the annual Corona Conference, of all current and retired General Officers took place. The USAFvNavy game, was of course, incidental..
And, supervising "Fumes" (my call sign, don't ask) is She Who Must Be Obeyed, my long-suffering USAF wife and Mom. Wish

u were there, it was a splendid display of firepower.

I flew Huns in 'Nam 68-69, from Tuy Hoa by the Sea Air Base. Here is the last flying Hun, an F, 2-seater, derisively known as the Family Model. Barnes Field MA 2010 air show. Again SWMBO supervising. She met me in an orange flight suit, sitting in 1 of these at Ramstein AB, Germany 1965. We were married in the South Side Chapel, 55y ago, my uncle, Father Geoff Hughes, officiating, having flown in from Massachusetts. He was an Army chaplain in Korea 52. BTW, the 104th TFG, my old unit, was by then in A-10, and earned the only Outstanding rating from Tactical Air Command ever. After I left of course...

PPS, on 7 Sep this year, I shall be airborne in this same Hun from Ft Wayne ID, sponsored by the Super Sabre Society, a motley, untrustworthy collection of some of the 7000 USAF aviators who flew the world's first truly supersonic fighter. Photos to follow!

A ton of paperwork and signatures tonight, if I don't fall asleep first, and then I can test fly this thing over the weekend, I hope. So if I'm not around on Monday...

I'm very confident everything will go perfect with the test flight. But, just out of curiosity is your wife really attached to the Superbee.... asking for a friend.
