Charging electric cars

Not living there, I haven't checked to see. Toyota claims sales, noting that leasing is an option. With a 402 mile range, I'd dare to venture farther than you would. :)
I dont know for sure, either way. This is the first one ive ever seen on the street. I was going by memory, quite possibly false, from seeing one at a new car auto show.

Maybe not yet...but soon. In my small country I already have customers that tow 3000 to 3500lb caravans behind Tesla Model X's and Jaguar I-Paces without and real problems. Only about 180 to 200 miles range whilst towing ....but after 200 miles on our busy roads you want to stop for a coffee any way! It's not for me but they prove it's possible and the tech will only get better. Seen a few electric multi drop EV vans around delivering parcels recently too. If they can make it work (on the road and stop start all day) I guess most could....if they wanted too.
But we have states bigger than some shitty little countries. That is something many can not comprehend. This maybe the wave of the future for city dwellers that don't know there is a whole world out there and the problem with many issues we have.

I saw one yesterday. It was hideous. It reminded me of how ugly the Prius looked when it first came out and has been the entire time of production.
The existence of electric cars wouldn't bother me if they were allowed to exist from consumer demand instead of Government mandate.
If the consumer chooses to buy them, while I don't agree, it would be much easier to deal with. The fact that the government is forcing the elimination of a proven energy source with well established infrastructure to support it is complete bullshit.

I wouldn't say the Prius is hideous, merely ordinary looking. I've seen a lot worse.

hmm, wonder why the picture is so huge?

As to the Prius I do believe its ugly as hell especially the early ones. However some of the Tecla's are pretty good looking. As the technology gets better, demand will in fact increase and the manufacturers will work to set themselves apart. Right now I think its primarily focused on performance (i.e. range, recharge time, etc.) with styling a somewhat 2nd thought. As the performance levels out they will then turn to styling (IMO) as well as other thing, perhaps even a sound track :)

There is no doubt that change is coming, but it always has to some degree or another.

Some of the design is due to the fact that true best aerodynamics is not that esthetically pleasing. The new Bugatti case in point. That Prius "Bulb" shape is what slips thru the air cleanest. Look familiar? Looks more Prius than Ferrari?

Just wait it is benign predicted even now the present EV will be short lived and replaced with something more environmentally friendly. In the mean time I will be quite content driving something with less than 15 computer containing unavailable parts. Thus meaning if you have a running 2021 model it maybe a rare collector piece in a few years.
I passed the local Ram dealership yesterday the truck lot was bare as in zilch nothing and hardly anything in the used lot. This will be a hard year for the auto industry.

The Bugatti Chiron is aerodynamic at CD .35...but so what? The 1982 Firebird was even slipperier by a couple points- CD .32. and CD .299 with the aero wheels. By the way, the Tesla Semi is CD .36 and doesn't need a funny nose to do it.

I do believe that is with the wing? (Could be wrong) A show was watching on Supercars when talking Bugatti said wing really hurts. But it's supposed to. Trying to keep that beast on the ground. They have gone nuts on putting today's power to the ground. So glad they are WAY out of my price league. I'm typically not fearful of MPH. Big air? I'm a wimp. My kid has done motocross with some big jumps. Not for this guy. Flying is evil! Lol.

Towing a small 3,000 pound camper 150 miles is nothing. How about towing something with real weight like a fifth wheel, large boat or a construction & car trailer? I can tow a car trailer behind my F150 which will get me easily 350-375 miles with only a 15 minute fill up & pee break.

Only slow Europeans have the time to wait around for 45 minutes for an electric fill up, sip tea (with their pinky in the air) and eat crumpets. Us real Americans aint got time for that nonsense.

:D
The all electric rule after 2030 in the UK does not apply to commercial vehicles....diesel will still be the way for them until the tech is there. Commercials, motorcycles, scooters and plant and agricultural vehicles can all still run on dino fuel after that date. Your F150 is a classed commercial vehicle over hear...so will not be affected.....not that you can buy that model here....It fails the UK import ugliness test!!

45 minutes ? We are not plugging then intro a socket in our house you know! A roadside or service station Supercharger will get 80 percent change into most electric cars within 20 minutes. So even a 10 minute top up will get you another 100 miles plus.....for most journeys that would get you going to change over night. Most EV drivers here rarely charge anywhere other than home. And as the batteries get better the more that will be the case.
...oh and I don't drink tea...or coffee! I bet life is actually faster paced than there for many!

I find it interesting that so many are jumping on the electric only , meaning no option, and haven't bother to ask when all this new found need for electric supply is going to come from. Power plants don't run on electric, they produce it. How can the same people who demand electric only be the same same people who oppose coal and nuclear? ( we all know wind is a joke at this point). To be clear i'm not addressing anyone on here. It's laughable to mandate restrictions of production of gas powered cars before the technology is developed to allow electric cars to actually work without overtaxing the grid and causing a massive environmental footprint but hey, not one ever claims that folks in government are the smartest guys in the room, why do so many forget that?... oh, nanny state , that's right.

Considering mileage driven and years serviceable that is achievable through design ,my 64" Polara 630hp big block blows this **** box out of the water and i'm basing that on carbon footprint.

To find out who are the winners of so-called green energy, you need to follow the money. It never fails.
And who are the winners with fossil fuels? Could you follow that money trail? A blind person could.
Technology is constantly changing and when a electric vehicle can travel 500 miles on a single 5 minute charge with smaller more. light weight batteries, people will buy them. That day I'm positive will come.
Im no fan if EV, I wouldn't want one if I was given it for free but this constant thinking of nothing will replace gas, oil and its byproducts is flawed thinking, unless of course you own a heck of a lot of stock in the oil industry. Then I get it.
Science and evolving technology has become a dirty word and most of us know why. What killed you disease wise forty years ago, doesn't kill you today. Would some bitch moan complain about that? I suppose a few very well might until it affects them.
Gasoline and diesel powered engines aren't going anywhere soon. We'll all be driving our old cars for some time but as hard as it may be, accepting what the future holds makes way for the progression of humanity.
So move on and until than enjoy your old car

I remember reading that toyota admitted that the prius styling was "distinctive" (their euphemism) so that owners could show off how "green" they were.
Honda at the same time sold an equally capable hybrid, but the only styling change from the regular honda was an emblem or two.
As a direct result of the ugly, oh excuse me "distinctive" styling, toyota hybrid outsold honda's hybrid at least ten to one. Maybe more.
There is a reason tesla and leaf and volt etc. look like they do.

I think the reason the Honda Insight hybrid didn't sell was because the design was ugly and sales-proof. That's when Honda started making them look more conventional.

Are we missing the grill opening that much.

I also belong to a Honda form. One guy was complaining about the range of his EV after his first long range highway experience. So I am guessing their advertised range is city driving only at lower speeds. He was surprised the range was half of what he was getting in the city. Charge times were greater also. Not every charge station was a fast charger. He was claiming 45 minutes for 75% charge. Got to love fake advertising.

Ford is bringing out an electric 150, this year I think. We’ll see what it can do.
