I had an interesting day yesterday. I woke up with vertigo. This is when your internal gyro-compass goes wacky. As soon as I tried to sit up, the room started to spin and I felt like passing out. Really scared me. I yelled at my wife to call 911. The dispatcher told my wife to get me to chew 2 Aspirin 81's. By the time the ambulance got here, we managed to get me out of bed and dressed, and sitting in my living room. I was still very dizzy and stressed. At the hospital, the emergency staff got me hooked up to heart and blood pressure monitors. Of course, the readings were crazy, due to my stress. A blood test was done, and once my vitals returned to near normal, I was wheeled away for a CT scan of my head. I even got a Covid test. All the tests came back OK. The doctor said that I may be coming down with a viral infection that affects my inner ear. After 6 hours at the hospital, I was able to walk around without falling down, so I was sent home.
Today, I was still kind of wobbly and tired. As the day progressed, I have been feeling better. Tomorrow is my 74th birthday. My wife asked the other day what I wanted for my birthday. I jokingly replied, "To wake up in the morning!" . I'm going to quit making jokes for a few days.

This just happened to my dad
Did they give you the exercises
To do in morning, that really helped my dad
They sent him home first time with a med and didn’t help he suffered for another 2 weeks and I took him back to the VA and this doc showed him some exercises that basically fixed it for him with in a day or 2

Glad you are recovering, hope all goes well and you keep getting your birthday wish everyday for a long time to come.

That **** happend to me too, Theres a really good set exercises to relief the dizziness, my problem was that the otolithes decide to take a trip to the earing channel so no more weight to stabilize the gyroscope, took me about three months to fully recover, it sucks but you'll be fine.

Was thinking about you yesterday and your winter situation. Mexico next winter right? Got to be the cold Canadian air that froze you ear channel. Just kidding

That problem runs in my wife's family. She and her other 3 sisters have all had bouts of inner ear trouble. They all recover.

Vertigo isn't fun for sure. Somebody told me something the other day when we were swapping stories about how enjoyable it is to go visit the urologist.
He said "getting old isn't for pussies". LOL

I feel your pain. I got the H1N1 shot before going to Haiti to help out with the earthquake 11 years ago (military) and have had it since totally sucks! Not Vertigo but exactly the same symptoms. Not a dam thing I can do about it but deal with it daily!

Hang in there , what the others said about exersizes is the same treatment my sister in law had for her vertigo.
Worked for her also.

About 20 years ago I was fine until coming down a ladder after putting some stuff up in the rafters of my shop and when I stepped off the last step to the floor, I simply started falling over. There was a car close by and that kept me from going all the way down to the floor. After a couple of minutes, the dizziness went away so I set up an appointment with an ENT who said I should go to a neurologist since he couldn't find anything. The neurologist said most likely suffered from an inner ear infection. Seems to be these things ain't easy to find. It hasn't happened again but now when I get on a creeper, I have to wait for my head to quit spinning before I can do anything and then it happens again (but not so bad) when I get up from the prone position. Kinda odd that getting out of bed in the morning or even getting into bed isn't a problem. When my sinuses are acting up, it's a bit worse. And the neurologist had be do some exercises which seemed to help....

The inner ear is a very powerful part of our body. Vertigo as is being discussed here…and tinnitus. My wife has tinnitus…constant ringing in the ears that never goes away. She's had to learn to live with it.

I'm dealing with the same thing....and sharp noises like banging on sheet metal or just throwing a bunch of scrap metal down on the concrete makes the ears ring more. Wish people could understand that instead of making fun of it. They will understand it in another 20 years!

If it any consolation, I had the same thing happen. It was a buildup of fluid behind the ear drum. It caused pressure on the drum and related hardware. Next thing you know, I cannot stand up. Dr put me on flonase and something else to try and get the crap to flow down the back of my throat, and the vertigo exercises that have already have been mentioned. Almost normal in 3 days.
The vertigo is a very unsettling symptom. I can understand calling an ambulance. It is the stress of the unknown. It is one of those "wtf is wrong with me" times.
Get well !!

Thank you all for your concern. I have already done a round of exercises as suggested by post # 4. I talked to a buddy yesterday that had the same experience a while back. He said that when he got to the hospital, the emergency doctor did a couple of turns of his head, and he felt better immediately. In retrospect, I am puzzled why my doctor would not know this procedure.

The second doc said they see that a lot at Er’s the docs are mostly focused on getting you stable and get you out they are more focused on emergency type medicine
So I’m sure they new what to do just to lazy or busy to do
I’m guessing you went to ER

Look up the Epley maneuver. That works quite well for Positional Vertigo.

Just saw a new doctor for the first time on Tuesday and my dizziness was talked about and she explained what might be going on but didn't mention the Epley maneuver. Going to give that a shot the next time I experience it.
