How do you measure a trunnion driveshaft?
I know that you start from the center of the rear u-joint, but then to where in the front do you take your measurement from?
Thanking everyone in advance.

I can't say this is the official way but I set the bolt on flange flat on the ground and bottom out the drive shaft in the slots. That makes it the shortest length. I then measure from the ground to center of rear u joint. In my experience the front pivot piece has always been the same length. You should have adequate travel in and out inside the trunion portion. Other than extending it all the way out, which makes it harder to hold and measure didn't seem positive enough.

peabodyracin...Thank you for the information.

Found out that Chrysler measures the trunnion:

"Front centerline of the trunnion pin to centerline of rear yoke bearing bores."

I hope that this information may help others.

Thank you,

Thanks for the info. That'll work fine as long as the thing is taken apart. Don't believe you'll be able to accomplish that with the trunion housing in place.

The cross pin with bearings bottoms out in the cover. Done like @peabodyracin you should be within a 1/2". Or minus a 1/2" after measuring should put you in the ballpark.
