Well, I'm certainly no Mopar expert but I recently had a guy wanting me to do an LS swap into a I think 71/72 Cutlass 442. The kicker is it already has a 4.8 LS in it. So the swap will be straight foward. Most of the parts will swap right over to the Corvette 5.7. Also going from carbed to Sniper EFI on his car too. The one thing I'm not totally sure about is he is running a TH350 behind the LS 4.8 I just don't know for sure that the flywheels are the same for both engines.

Sounds like you are asking the wrong crowd here. Put a 470 B engine with TF heads in it and have some fun!

I wasn't really asking just thought I'd blab about doing something. I found a video on youtube and since the 4.8 is already hooked up with the th350 the flexplate will swap right over to the 5.7 so even more simple for me.

I'm pretty sure
there's a converter snub/snout spacer/crank register (adapter)
to move away from the crank
(converter register built-in or a separate piece/adapter)
take up the extra space/length, converter centered to the crank
IIRC spacers/washers too, between the flexplate/flywheel
spacing the converter back (not sure the distance)
so you can use a flexplate/flywheel with the starter gear on it
(special LS swap flexplate)
350th to bolt up-to the LS

I saw most of that on Hot Rod Garage
with Tony & Lucky, installing several LS's in Caddy's
Pontiacs, Buicks & other gm products recently

I didn't see the posted video in #3, before I posted

Just doing something out of the norm for me. It should be fun I think.. Hopefully not a nightmare. And the good thing is I get to keep the 4.8. Nothing wrong with it he just wants more power.

Nothing wrong with it? You really are in the wrong place...

(somebody had to say it)

I meant the 4.8. The engine is still running well. He just wants more power. Not in the wrong place just doing car stuff but usually don't mess with Chevy or Ford. Just something new to talk about.

One thing to keep an eye on is the 4.8 used a 1.5" wide rear seal flange, and the later LS engines used a 0.75" wide flange. This is something that could cause an issue for starter placement in relation to the ring gear. I had the wrong cranl sent to me for a 5.3 and learnes about this whole mess the hard way. I had to get Pioneer to make me a custom flexplate to fix out problem. I do think there were adapter shims to go the other way, but not the way I needed. Why not use the 4L60 trans to get overdrive??

He bought the engine only. So the trans did not come with it. I told him it would be better to have a modern OD transmission but I guess he has a budget like everyone else and the cost of a trans and possibly a custom drive shaft would have been costly. Keep in mind this engine will get a sniper fuel injection kit as the other 4.8 had a 4bbl double pumper on it. Not sure on the CFM though . I may see if I can swap the 4.8 for something cool. I don't need or want the engine laying around. So I guess it will be a swapping tool..

The 5.7 intake and injection didn't come with it? You will need the spacer I posted the link to in order to go from the 4.8 to the thinner 5.7 engine.

Heck we have a 440 in our 52 GMC :D
Rules ha , what rules ?

Ha, ha. Yes, I put this together for a friend of mine. Factory 5 kit car with an LS as well. I like all cars but am Mopar only for my own cars and trucks of course.

Let me see if I can get the picture off my phone from the ebay listing where he bought it. The LS that is in the car is stripped down a ton and looks bare. This 5.7 looks like its dressed up for prom.

The one thing I'm not sure on and wont be is if the 5.7 has Cathedral port heads and if the 4.8 has them. If not I will have to get a different Intake. Which I told him was a possibility. Just not sure. But if you go onto summit site and look up a 4bbl intake for an LS engine they all say 4.8,5.3,5.7 and 6.0 So that makes it a little more confusing. However I will find out pretty quickly which one has what.

The 4.8/5.3/6.0 are LS based, and the 5.7 is an LS1. To my knowledge, they are all "cathedral" ports, but where you get into grey area (my LS book is at work) is LS3/LS7/LS9 which are 6.2 in Camaros and Vettes. Those engines have a lot of neat "Gee-Whiz" parts. Look up LS9 Titanium connecting rods. Make sure you are sitting, about $850 PER ROD!

Well thats some good news I guess. The rods on the other hand WOW.

Who was the knot head that took the 4 speed out

Not sure but I think the car came from Streetside Classics. Its not a show stopper and probably isn't a real 442 car. I'll check it out when I'm under it. Also look for a clutch pedal or lack there of.
