I tried a temp install of my cam in the 383 today so I could get a measurement for new pushrods. After I got the cam in (and pushed all the way to the rear) I looked into the lifter bores and noticed that I could see portions of 2 cam lobes in each hole. So I pulled the cam forward so the correct lobes were centered in the lifter bores. The cam bearing surfaces extend forward exactly .312 beyond the cam bearings.
It's been many years since I've put a motor together, and MANY brain cells have gone under the bridge, but....what am I missing? Aren't these supposed to line up, at least a little closer than 5/16"?

Bolt a cam gear on.

Does the cam have a number on it that says it’s for a big block mopar? I’d say it’s the wrong cam.

We all have "What The Hell??!" moments

I'm pretty sure that cam is for the 8 cylinder x dual-4 cylinder conversion where two V8 cylinders fire at the same time, one on the left bank and another on the right. Diesel torque out of a gasoline engine........I think....at least.....that's what I heard...sorta.....No?

It is a 294-FDP from Crower.

Always wanted one of those....all I could afford was this damn Mopar.

I ran a 292 FDP once upon a time. Good cam

If you had the block hot tanked, the cam bearings were replaced.

Block might have a bit of core shift or bearing was damaged being replaced.

Had 440 with similar problem that I took back to machinist that replaced bearings.
