My first 58 Belvidere

The biggest problem for rust was the eyebrows above the headlights were always rusted out. The mud would pack up there and hold the water and then you had perforated eyebrows. That 58 Fury was a great runner and rode super on my weekend trips. I got tired of replacing the trannys so I converted to stick. Big problem cause I could only get the standard 3 speed when it needed a stronger box. I believe the big stick motors got a Borg Warner tranny to contain the torque. Anytime I got on it in 1st gear and tires burnt rubber 1st gear would strip and be useless after that. At least with the stick tranny I could change it myself and I learned to feather 1st gear. Good luck with your find and hope you can get it without further damage.

Thank you.... Went back out there today and ended up breaking my shovel. I was able look underneath from the front bumper back, and the control arms/A arms, are sitting about 3 inches above ground. While the rearend Is buried midways up the wheels.....also, any tricks on getting the doors opened? The handles sound like they are functioning and the doors wiggle, just do not open.

It was an option at extra cost in any model. Would have been standard on the Fury, but also the 350 was available at more bucks. The 350 was called the Golden Commando with 305 HP and the 318 with 2 4's was called Dual Fury V-800 with 290 HP. They also had a 277 and a 301 C.I. engine.

290 hp, that's quite a bit for an old stocker. Smoking tires became a thing.

Thank you. This car has a 318 wide block I think. With push button trans.

Ok, also I just now noticed that the grill is different from left to right.... Can anyone tell me what's going on there?

Also not sure if it came stock, but it has dual carbs on it??
Welcome to the site! 318's were available in 58. Dad had a 56 Belvedere Sports Coupe and said it was a teen but from what I read, the teen didn't show up until mid year 56. Anyways, you might be better off if that tree in front of it can be cut down. Hey, save the wood for a fire place :D If you can cut it down, dig around it so you can get as low as possible with the saw. The lower the stump, the better. And you might start a build thread on it too showing how you got it out with plenty of pics of what it looks like underneath and inside too. I'm interested in knowing whats under the hood but being a modoor, I'm thinking a mundane 2 bbl....

I can't see the grill, but I do know, the guys into these models get real goosey about glass. Forget what they all it. Like said looking forward to you pulling it out, and cleaning it up.!!

If it stays hot into tomorrow,I'm gonna try and get it out. As for the grill it's different from left to right.

You might venture over to Facebook and there are some specific sites that are all about these cars. Also a great Mopar guru around Topeka? has a world of knowledge of these cars. Look for Jesse Heberling on Mopars Unnlimited site on FB.

Welcome from NY.
Interesting project I'm with cranky, do away with the tree.

Looks like the part on the right side is from a different model or even a later year. I'm not all that up on the stuff from the 50's.....

The grille had been pieced in at some time with a grille from some other car. The left side appears as the original grille. The car IMO wouldn't have been setup with a dual-quad motor factory; maybe a 318 but as I recall two doors were more apt to be optioned out with added HP stuff. Have to look at a '57 grille...offhand could be that's what might have been pieced in. The type of vent windows (memory is fogged) more often were on six/manual trans cars or two-speed auto's.

Keep an eye out for snakes but I'm sure you already know that living where you do.
I would try getting it up in the air first but very carefully and block it up as you go.

A few little tricks for you my keyboarding friend... When you go to pull this out use a few old junk steel rims, set them on the ground and run your cables, chains or straps across the top of them. They will provide some lift with the pull. I would also get a couple of 2-4 ton snatch blocks to run cable thru and chain too. Then use those to chain around the base of a sturdy tree to change the direction of your pull or change the direction of the car you must use cables in the snatch blocks.. Bring several bottles of soap too if you have trouble making it roll to easy loading on the trailer .. Take lots of pics and protect yourselves from ticks! Have fun!

When I first saw this I thought you were just pulling everyone's chain ( no pun intended) about yanking that thing out of there and saving it. Hope you have a **** ton of $$$.
