Ok, just want to know if the engine sounds for this movie Mopar are the real deal or did they dub something else in? Sounds like my E body 4 speed. What do YOU think?

Naw a 70 Challenger never had that good of stereo... LOL

Seriously though, the sound is that of an American V8, might be the Challenger, another Mopar or maybe something else. I am sure this will create some chaos but I think if you put the same exhaust on any 2 American V8 engines with similar cams/build they are going to sound pretty much the same regardless of manufacturer.

You would be surprised how the actual car driving sounds on a video.
I was selling a nice car an my wife wanted to take a video of it driving by. Well the video looked great, but the car sounded terrible on the video. Sounds fine to your ear.

So you know these movie studios have a full sound department that makes it sound like they want it to.

Somebody like myth busters that did a show on sound effects on movies and it shows how they did the different sounds. They are all made up and dubbed in.

E bodies are relatively "new" to me - my first love are my 2nd gen Chargers. You may think I'm crazy but the same engine, same exhaust, sounds different in these two models. Maybe auto v manual makes a difference, I'm certainly no expert. My experience is that the Chargers are...crankier than the E bodies. When I watched this movie after getting my 440 4 speed, I kinda thought the engine sound was different but then drove my car and was surprised how much it sounded like the car in the movie. I'd be curious if you put the same exhaust on a Chevy V8 would it sound the same as a Mopar? If I'm not mistaken, the firing order is different because my GM mechanic friend is always baffled by the firing order on my 440's. Then there's the Hemi which has a completely different sound and behavior.
To be honest, when I'm at a car show, I can tell the difference between Ford, Chevy and Mopar. To me, the best sound is the Mopar.

My guess is some of the exhaust sounds were actual and others were dubbed in. The work to create the real sound effects especially in 1970 was a massive and expensive undertaking. Vanishing Point was a low budget flick...despite doing a fantastic job filming it. My 2 E-bodies I had were pretty quiet with the large resonators they had, I was always envious of the sound a RR and Charger had. Who knows, maybe the resonators were removed to garner more sound or another system was put in for the sound effects. Some history buffs might have snagged some info on this I'm not aware of.

Love it!! What ever made the sound affects, sounds great!!

Anyone have Barry Newman's number - let's call and ask him...

Whether it be real or added in, the sound is great. I've always been VERY happy they didn't go 'shift crazy' the way BULLET was dubbed. Good lord, how many times did McQueen shift that 'Stang during the famous scene? 200? 300? 400?

Just glad they used it, instead of a chally.
Me as well. I know they used 3 or 4 Challengers for the movie; but one of those had to be majorly beat to **** as you'd see in some scenes and they still saved it. Anyway, much as I got to like Kowalski...I don't want him delivering any new rides for me, lol.

They used that sound effect in countless movies - yeah - a '76 Buick Skylark all of a sudden with a stick and throaty exhaust, lol.

Not a Chivvy fan huh?

The Chevy people I encounter at car shows are ok but a lot of times they're jerks. They made fun of my Mopars mercilessly until I started kicking their asses at shows.
