Heads

I really like my 440 Source Stealth heads. I had them CNC'd due to my overall goal. Had I not been looking at over 600hp I would have had them checked like any other head. They were $999 for the pair, fully assembled. Customer service is great. They are in Reno/Stead NV. Great guys who are very knowledgeable on Mopar n run their own stuff.

Bang for the buck.... I don't think a pair of Edelbrock heads can come close for the dollar.

there's 100's if not 1,000's of threads about cylinder heads
already on FBBO in many different forums
including this very forum too

I suggest people use the search engine
this subject has been covered 1,000 times over

maybe learn something
not just start another one, maybe add to the 1,000 already here
Or not just get into
yet another needless pissing contest/s

Smiley You're offended I think I have thicker skin in the back.jpg

Someone didn't agree w Someone n now Someone's feewings are hurt.

My only contention is that Head Flows can be as different as the Flow Benchs they are tested on... and NO 'two' Flow Benchs are ever the exact same..... nonetheless, the numbers should be somewhat 'relative' ?
I know that sounds confusing,
but that said....
Next week I will personally go out and Flow Test some BB Mopar Edelbrock RPM's and STEALTH Heads brand new "as delivered" OOTB..... which I have in stock here in my Shop..... and I will post the results with Pictures here.

All tests will be performed on our Superflow SF750 Bench W/FlowCom that was custom built for us in 2016..... and delivers Flow Numbers that are pretty much DEAD NUTS within a very few cfm with those published by Trick Flow for their TF240/270 Heads... and most all BRODIX numbers for their Heads.

What I'm saying is this.... I believe our SF750 Flow Bench to be as accurate as it GETS.... SuperFlow even took our Bench to the PRI show to "DEMO" it's capabilities/software, where they were also Flowing different Manu's Heads to showcase it's features prior to shipping/delivering it to us here, and it's calibration plates are a valuable resource to maintain tat.
And.
'if'...... I can then Flow Test TF240's and TF270's here and be pretty much dead nuts numbers with what they publish ?
then,
I believe the numbers I get next week on the OOTB Eddy's and STEALTH's should be a fairly representative comparison.

In fact I think the best thing for me to do will be to test some TF240's/270's.... then the Eddy's.... then the STEALTH so we get a same day/same bench comparison of all 3 Heads ?
I believe some people may be extremely surprised by the results ?

On my Saenz S-600 bench, an ootb Ede RPM Mopar head will usually be about 20cfm better than an ootb Stealth Head.

Of the RPM/Stealth/Speedmaster/Sidewinder heads, in truly “ootb” form, the Stealths have always flowed less than the others on my bench.
Not way less....... but less.

With my porting skills, I find the Speedmaster/Sidewinder variety to be the easiest(least work required) of them to get over 300cfm.
I like the SSR better.

I prefer the ductile seats of the Ede heads, and just “feel better” about the rest of the hardware compared to what’s on the Chinese heads.

GEE,
So much vitriol!
SFSI, Keep it simple
Get used 906s OR 452s, send them in to a reputable shop (I did Indy Cylinder Heads back in 2004)
Have them do it

Get the heads you want and send to our fellow forum member: PRHeads, Burlington VT!
Just drive up the "87" North to Burlington
It's a 5 hour drive!
Scenic route
Go have a nice day and drop off the heads

I went with Marsh Performance Sidewinder closed chamber heads. He matched the springs, keepers and retainers to my cam profile (all Comp Cam parts), hand assembled and checked before shipping. Good price too.
I've been looking at those heads for my 383......thinking of using a "509" cam. Is the price for a pair better than the Edelbrock aluminum RPM heads?

I just checked their website. Heads w just valves, 800 n change for a pair. I'm sure ready to run is definitely cheaper than most anything but 440. But the Marsh heads are from an actual machine shop so they should truly be ready to run.

I paid $1200 last year delivered with 10 degree locks and retainers, springs, seals, assembly and machine work. Also, these heads are all dry on the exhaust studs, no need to use thread sealer. I did switch to ARP fasteners as well.

"QC Approved"

Would you buy a tire with half the tread? A carb with missing gaskets? A new lawnmower with a bent blade? Why is it with cylinder heads you pay full price and finish their work?

What did that cost if I might ask? Since you had Indy do them15 years ago, what do you think that it would cost today and would it be cheaper to buy off the shelf aluminum heads? Just curious.

I'm of the "port the **** out of 516s with a Harbor Freight die grinder" school of thought. We'll see how well they handle 600+ NA horsepower with big valves installed.

Another consideration is quench and flame front propagation. I have read where the closed chamber head is better on average for that. I'm sure better minds can tell us more.
