We've been up at cape Vincent the past couple days.
Yesterday when I got in the boat to go fishing this was laying between the seats.
I didn't see it right away and couldn't tell if it was alive.

Nah, Newt’s a lot bigger and has grey hair!
 
looks like a mud puppy, haven't seen one in years they used to be all over evans lake by where I grew up in the Irish Hills near M.I.S.
 
I think that's what it was.
No idea how it got in the boat?
Dropped by a heron? Or maybe someone caught it off the dock and thew it in there?
 
I thought mudpuppy as well. We see them here on occasion. Been a while for me also. ruffcut
 
Didn't live up to it's name then.
The water is crystal clear in the St Lawrence river.
