I recently finished putting this car together and it has KYB gas adjust shocks on it. Well with only 500 miles on the car still, I’m sorting out what ever pops up including clunks and rattles here and there. I’m finding that these shocks are super harsh and really feel road cracks and bumps etc. Kind of jarring really. They hold car up well cornering but this car is built mostly to go fast in a straight line not corner anyway...

Wondering if others aren’t liking these shocks too and what you use for both descent handling and and a nice/comfortable ride?

Any recommends appreciated!

Bilstein x 4

A sponsor vendor on here PST has them, free shipping and gives us a discount. Look at the side panel ads for PST. Or Firmfeel has them too.

Thanks! I’m in Alberta so I’ll probably get the shaft, but if I knew what model up here I may be able to source them locally. I have a few jobber accounts I can order from..

air shocks on the rear would break the upper shock mount plate because they just aren't built heavy enough to support the weight of the car , shocks are to lesson the rebound of the road not hold weight at least when they designed these cars , they are unibody's , so if I was running (performance ?) shocks I'd keep an eye on the upper mounts for cracking because they do a lot of damage when that mount breaks loose , I've had to repair the floor because of it, I'm not saying don't use them, just maybe some additional reinforcement may be needed

Bilstiens, Fox, QA-1 all are good stuff... The blisters aren't available throughout normal vendors the are specced to RCD (Race Car Dynamics) and most normal Bilstien resellers don't have access to that line..

@Dennis H Is there know one model of Bilstein or?
I got them when Hotchkis still sold them as Mopar-Tuned. They no longer sell them. I’d be interested about specific application too. Had them over ten years now.

The RCD version of the Bilsteins can be had through Firm Feel, Hotchkis[ I think], possibly BAC and PST.

Bilsteins from PST. Great looking car by the way.

KYB.... Kill Your Back.
I dont even try to make my mopars handle, manual steering and brakes, but those that do, and hate KYB, seem to recommend Bilsteins.
If you would rather have a more drag race oriented shock.... competition engineering adjustables, or calverts.

Interesting. I have KYB in mine, rides very nicely, handles exceptionally well and that's with stock HD springs.

My Satellite had KYB's onit I bought it. Ya I felt every crack. I switched to Comp Eng drag shocks since that would be the main use. I was amazed by how much smoother they were.
I recall a few buddies the ran the Bilsteins years ago and were very happy. A couple also had good luck with Koni's on their cornering cars, fairly stiff but still smooth.

Wow, all great replies! My main objective is smoother better ride, 6 G cornering is not what I do. Just thought I’d there was shock that could give both good ride with ‘some’ handling that might be the winner.

To the bilstein owners - what’s the ride vs handling like? IE: mostly great smooth ride and some handling, 50/50, or mostly handling with a somewhat smooth ride? Etc...

Thanks in advance for more replies!

Compliant. Quiet ride. Bilsteins on all cars. 69, Hellcat, and the Daytona.

KYBs are a digressive design. This means that in their initial movement from a static state, they are stiff but the longer the stroke (Meaning longer suspension travel) the softer the KYBs get. This makes a car with soft springs and small torsion bars feel firmer. The real problem is when a person uses KYBs with stiffer springs and TBs. the ride will be real harsh.
The better shocks are “progressive “ in design where the initial movement from static is soft but the greater the travel, the firmer the shocks get. This is a better design because it gives a softer ride on bumpy roads but they firm up on roads with ups and downs. You get Better control on rough roads because the suspension soaks up bumps instead of having the car skip and bounce off of them.
I have Bilsteins on my ‘15 Challenger, ‘07 truck and my Charger.

Gas shocks, ah yes - reminds me of when GM came out with their "radial tuned suspensions" a little bit.
Anyone thought about finding an old/new set of non-gas shocks like stock? Gabriel, Monroe, that sort
of parts bin replacment stuff? Do they even still exist?
