What a reality check! I was watching an old "Leave It To Beaver" rerun. Jerry Mathers, is the actor who played Beaver..... During the show, a commercial came on. It was Jerry Mathers advertising for some pain relief drug. He is now 73 years old. Makes me feel old, as I was usually about Beaver's age when I was watching the reruns of the show in the early 1970s.

Was it a young Mathers, or current age ? I could see them getting a Beaver lookalike doing a current commercial: " You old people watching this are gonna need this pain medication. So, get up off your rocking chair and run, oops, I mean mosey on over to your favorite drug store and buy a bottle."

Jerry Mathers at 73 years old in the commercial. Just a few seconds after watching him at probably 12 years old on the TV show.....

We watch the old re-runs
He was cute as a kid
Yup, getting old!

Yep born in 48. He's 73 years old. Here's a later photo. He was the first child actor to contract a deal receiving revenue from the show and merchandising. He is still collecting from the show that quit airing 50 years ago. His net worth is $3 million which isn't really a lot compared to a lot of hollywood actors and singers.

Those old shows take me to a time I just sit and smile about.

I met Lumpy at Hot August Nights a few years ago. Instantly knew he was Lumpy. Still looked like Lumpy. He was dead within a year of meeting him.

I still see 'Leave it to Beaver' in early AM
(My Three Sons, Father Knows Best, Beverly Hillbillies, Hazel, McHale's Navy)
MeTv or AntenaTV or something
usually while sitting at my desk, I'm drinking coffee,
waking up, nice calm, mostly watching deer/turkey stroll by...
Listening to TV on in the background...
I like the old shows, they make me laugh
remember good times..
The Beav is 11 years older than I am...
Interesting, I thought we were about the same age too...
The show started the year or 2 before I was born 1957-1958
some cool old Chryslers/Plymouth too...

I don't make it thru many full episodes, of any of them
but I still like it/them...
Portrayed 'The good ol' days in the burbs',
good patriotic Americans/families, great family values...

Yup. You tell how old a person is by what TV commercials they are familiar with.

I remember Dick Van Dyke doing the old people commercials, just saw Joe Namath the other day doing one..

As with many shows, the best seasons of Leave it to Beaver were the first two or three. After that, it started to get progressively bad, in my opinion. In the first season or two, June was witty and smart. She would throw some good natured and clever zingers at Ward from time to time. As time went on, though, they portrayed her as just a dumb housewife who'd never been out of the house. They also started to use more and more music to try to emphasize what was supposed to be funny. Beaver got dumber and dumber as he got older. I do enjoy watching the first 2-3 seasons, but the later seasons need Eddie Haskell in the episode for me to want to watch them.
