Here's a mystery that needs to be solved by someone smarter than me, which shouldn't be hard.
Just reinstalled the original wiring harness in my '66 Belvedere. It was thoroughly checked while out of the car and is in good condition. Before reinstalling it, a continuity test was done on all the wires and all the terminals on the firewall/bulkhead connectors were cleaned and checked. These connectors are clean and corrosion free.
As I started a systems check the first thing I found is this problem: The Lt Green wire that connects to the left parking/turn signal has power running to it. According to the diagram it runs through the bulkhead connector to the Directional Switch connector at the base of the steering column.
With nothing else connected to feed that wire, except the lower bulkhead connector, that light green wire to the left parking/turn signal has constant power. I disconnected the headlight switch, directional switch connector and the other 2 connectors at the bulkhead connector. I can not figure out what is feeding that Lt Green wire, or if constant power to that wire is how it is designed to work.
What the hell am I missing. Any help is appreciated, before I pull out all the wires and what's left of my hair.
UPDATE!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!! Turns out the bulkhead connector was bad. In the engine compartment, the power wire that feeds the dash and back of the car connects to the bulkhead connector in the lower right corner on the lowest connector. The parking lamp wire connects in the slot directly above it. Don't ask how but the bulkhead connector had deteriorated to the point that current was transferring from the hot wire below to the parking lamp wire directly above it. Luckily, I had another bulkhead connector. So... I transferred ALL the wires from the old bulkhead connector to the new bulkhead connector. Gave me a chance to clean all the wires and contacts.
I now have all the lights working properly.
I can't thank all of you enough for your thoughts. That's what I love about FBBO. Not so much the cars, but the people. You're so giving of your time and knowledge.
