Why the engine wont run

The seller was the guy who was on here, about 4 months ago, posting about not being able to start his Charger. I talked with him a week and a half ago.

Those push rods look scary.. I over-revved an engine in the past that resulted in two mildly bent pushrods but nothing like the **** you showed.

Hard to believe after just changing those pushrods everything is going to be fine and dandy with that engine.

How did you get the pushrods out without pulling the heads?

I know the pushrods will lift right out, without pulling the heads if you loosen the rockers but I've never seen pushrods that were bent that bad come out without removing the heads. I didn't think it was that funny or that stupid of a question. But glad I could give you a good laugh.

IMO, none of those bends were sharp enough to stop them from lifting out. I am sure that a little twisting and twirling was required.
PS Thanks for the laugh. :poke::luvplace:

I bought this car this week. A 73 Rallye big block, 440 NOM, 4 speed, buckets, console, A/C. The seller has been restoring it for 2 years. He had the freshly rebuilt engine running he says, then days later it would not run. I went through the ignition, wiring, fuel, and carb. No reason this engine should not fire off. Except when I found this.

So , what’s the deal on the car

Factory 400 - 4 Speed ?

Or did it leave the factory as a 440 - Auto

Thanx Scott

Dont have to pull the heads. Just remove the rocker shaft assemblies. Same thing for the lifters. Lifters will come out with a magnet, and wiggle up through the opening in the heads. Go back in the same way.

So there has to be a reason for the bent pushrods.... Do you plan to look further? Or roll the dice?

Im going to take a guess here again. Maybe it was running prior to you getting the engine. But maybe the covers were removed, the rocker shafts removed and pushrods. Push rods may have not been seated in the lifters prior to re installing and tightening down the shafts. Just guessing here. Also were the bent rods side by side or staggered ? On bent one not?

Going back to that original thread in January , read the first few pages and then you wonder why I am still scratching my

I still had these photos of your car on my phone. The guy you bought it from claimed he had been trying to get it running for a good 5 months and got tired of screwing around with it.

You still have the fuel line zip tied to the heater hose?

Now that you have those dog legged pushrods out of there (that in itself is unfucking believable they were like that for 5 months), you could bring it over on my side of town and shut down the “Black Ghost Jeep”.

I would bet that engine got to big of snort of ether when the previous owner was using starting fluid trying to get it to run.

Yes I do still have the fuel line zip tied to a heater hose, lol. A new zip tie at that, replaced the fuel filter. I will make a hard line run behind the alternator like it is supposed to be, eventually. Right now focusing on finishing the build so I can take it for a drive. It still needs quite a bit.
