I am debating what to do when I get to the point of finishing off the interior. I have the original carpet (great shape) as well as the original padding (also great shape) that is/was under the carpet. My question or thought is do I keep the original padding when I put the carpet/interior back in or do I upgrade to a dynamat or something along those lines... or both?

Thoughts?

I did both

Dynamat isn’t really padding so as stated I would use both.

I dynamat (or equivalent) all my cars. I replaced the underpad in the last one because of a musty smell inside the car. Fixed.

That is a really good point. The condition of the padding (whatever material that is) is really great, but it does have that older car smell to it.

Padding is usually 1st to go,get the best padding makes carpeting feel better

Dynomat or any similar product is for sound deadening. Heat insulation is best from a closed cell foam or the original padding.

I figured that the underpad soaks up allot of liquid from any carpet cleaning done over its lifetime, any drinks spilt or tracked in from shoes. Doesn't dry or air out properly causing that old car musty smell. Car smells way better.
