The only advantage that I can see is that a wheel change-out would be quicker without having to disconnect the piston rod assembly. And early steamer locomotives did wear out a lot of wheels due to slippage and traction problems with those high torque engines.

Road one very similar on the Durango Silverton road, old mail-school-passenger bus. Had an industrial GMC 6 cylinder and trans. Weird seeing the man sitting in the drivers seat shifting gears and no steering wheel lol

Don’t you miss the days where machines were beautiful and highlighted with a stunning lady or several around it... liberals and feminism ... I can’t get my mind around it two beautiful things... I guess I’m simple minded now I just need food and beer or whisky. Thanks again for sharing!
