This was in a large lot of auto parts I bought at an auction. Is it an interior part for an Early car? It measures about 4-1/2" long

It actually looks like a wooden grab handle. The wrappings would have covered the brackets at the ends.
 
I think I know exactly what it is... The old fashioned continuous hand towel machine attached to the wall. They had the wooden rollers that you see, and the cloth might be ruminants of the towel roll.
