This just may be a gear drive....no cam button. But is that their answer to no cam buttons?

If you have a BBM with a dry sump system, and a crank trigger ignition, you have no intermediate shaft
so nothing to keep the cam up against the thrust face on the block. Only reason to use one.

Hughes cam, contact Hughes about what to do. They may exchange it. Nothing to lose but the phone call. Ask them about the buttons. They are a cam manufacturer and should know.

I went back to look and it is a gear drive cover, but the cam end-play still gets established with a gear drive also.

Yep saw that one, I put it in my cart last night while shopping around. I got a pretty good list going, including the ARE cover IQ recommended.

Unless you’re willing to reimburse those that take your advice, you should probably stop distributing it so freely. It’s not accurate.

Well got some good news this afternoon. Dropped the block off at the machine shop, said the cam is fine, crank is fine.
They are going to jet wash, it check the deck, bores ( they think they are fine looking at it) , hone it & install new cam bearings.
May have dodged a bullet and purchasing the ARE cover won't hurt as bad!
