Trying to finish taking gauge cluster off. My allen keys won’t fit in the heater control knobs and I can’t seem to get the radio knobs off, unless I’m just an idiot. Something is holding the radio in place and I can’t find what.

Those little allen keys have to be JUST the right size. Are you trying to use metric size keys? They should be American fractional sizes. Radio knobs should just pull straight off. I think I remember there is a brace bolted to back of radio also, but it's been a very long time....

Thank you! Got it. Also is it safe to turn the car on with the cluster completely disconnected?

In a 66 Charger, unless it's missing on your car, there should be a rear"radio support bracket" that is bolted to a 1/4-20 stud on the rear of the radio with other end attached to dash structure. The radio knobs just pull straight off the shafts of the controls. If you are disconnecting the entire gauge cluster you should have battery disconnected as full battery volts is always on the leads to the alt gauge.
