thank you
Some you have to remove the wiring adapter. Post a pic of what you bought.

What part of the starter is hitting the block? I have one on a gen2 hemi and no problem at all.

I have one on my 383, bought from napa for a 95 Dakota with a 5.2L
Check part #'s between a 95 and a 98, might be different

Yes, the adaptor may need to be removed and IIRC I saw on FCBO some starters have a different nose on them. There is a flat that is cast at a different angle.

nose cone bolts up to bell housing if it wasnt hitting block.believe it was the where the wiring plastic was .
pn was Part #N612661A
its not giving me the picture.i think your right needs adaptor.il go grab one see if that will fit.
thanks

that adaptor a box store item or order from speed shop?
thanks you guys all have the answers.

You do not want it. Post a picture of the starter you are trying to install.

Same thing that I am going through right now too. I ended up taking the old starter to a starter rebuilder. He said it was a high torque starter motor from a Ford, with a Mopar nosing. He is checking it out now to see what is causing the heat issue.

dont know if i have a incorrect manifold or if i need to redo my head pipe.i had to repiece the car it was a skull when i got it.when cold starter couldnt work any better.

The Dakota/Ram 5.2 starter on Fred (440) is actually a used one out of a junkyard!
It's been on there well over a decade now, still has the junkyard yellow marker writing
on it - and still works great, even with all the cranking I have to do to re-prime the
carb sometimes.
The wiring connections are pretty darn close to the block; some "modifications" were
made to help with that, although I'd like to use the relocation kit one day.
With the ridiculous 2" tubed Hedman headers, I made some selective "sculpting"
of a tube or two to gain some clearance around the starter.

There are two sizes of mini starters, a mini and a mini-mini. The larger mini fits the big block. I asked for one for a 1990 d-150 with a 318, not sure which year is the change over. Remove the lug adapter, split the molded end on the positive cable, and angle the leads away from the block. Once it's installed, you can reach up and gently bend the leads a bit more for clearance.
