Having my gauge cluster sent off to get worked on. Am I able to run the vehicle to work on other things with the wires disconnected, esp. for the ammeter?

Maybe silly question but rather safe than sorry.

The leads from the ammeter can be bolted together and carefully taped so they don't short out anywhere. That's how my '70 charger runs all the time. I think all other functions should still be working. I'm not familiar with your gauge cluster and what switches for lights, etc. will go along with the cluster, but the ammeter being jumped and carefully insulated should be no problem.

You can with other Mopars, but I'm not so sure about the '66-'67 Charger because of all of the transistors and capacitors and stuff for the electro luminescence.

I have always just installed an amp gauge from a used cluster to those wires and like stated, place it where it will not come in contact with anything. Then it should crank and run without issues.

Its the same with the charger. You're just bridging the gauge.

Have done so, in the past. As stated above, bolt the amp gauge leads together, wrap some tape to insulate, and your good to go.
