Team,

Noting that my dual snorkel cleaner has a 4 1/4 horn opening.....what would be a good carb for that? 1406 Edelbrock run 5 1/8.

What engine size and camshaft? How are you driving it, drag race or cruise down the hiway?

there are thousands of carbs with a 5 1/8 air cleaner neck on them. We need to know more.

.....No, I was looking for the smaller 4 1/4 opening size, but the engine is a 383 standard cam, street car. Stock application

On a 67 383-4.....I'd try a 650 AVS.

Been trying to figure the horn opening size the AVS2 to get an idea if the base plate will fit....or if Edelbrock just does 5.25

the biggest carb you can run with that air cleaner is a '67 440 afb. if it were me i'd just find a '67 or earlier stock carb. none of the newer carbs have the 4 7/16" air horn. for chrysler that went away in '68.

You cannot go buy a new small throat 4 1/4 4bbl carb anyplace.

If you are looking for a stock AFB, try finding a 4131S. Number is stamped on lower left of carb base. They were stock on 1966 383's and seem to be fairly common at swap meets. They have the small air horn you require for your air cleaner. As an alternative, you could get an aftermarket carb base for 5 1/4" air horn, and run a newer Edelbrock. Your factory air cleaner lid would still seal to the top of the filter, but now air could come in around the smaller diameter new base, making an unsilenced so cleaner. As another poster stated, don't go larger than 650 cfm with new carb.

So I just spoke to Edelbrock......they state that there are now adapters for this pickle.....I'm going to try those first....

I thought that the Carter AFB air horn size is 4-7/8" and the Carter AVS / Holley is 5-1/4". The 2 BBL Carter AND Stromberg are smaller. Not sure about adapter availability...

Mancini sells an air cleaner base that’ll fit the filter and the 5-1/4”. I’d do that (did in fact). Now use a Holley 3310-1

17.5 inch base? Can you recall the part or link it? I cannot seem to find it on their site

Nothing wrong with that.

More air through the filter.

I had the same problem when I swapped my original Carter 4299s 4bbl for a newer Carter/Edelbrock. I found '68+ air cleaner at a swap meet that had the same size lid as my original dual snorkel, but the larger base opening. Not sure what the air cleaner came from originally. Had to buy the assembly, but didn't pay a lot because it was a single snorkel lid. of course, that was 25 yrs ago lol.
