I managed to find the pad on the 318 which is in my '66 Corona.. The pad has the following:

HM318R. 37662754

From what I have been able to figure out, this 318 was manufactured on November 19, 1971, based upon the Chrysler 10,000 day calendar... Manufactured in Michigan?

Is my assessment correct?

Thx,

Joel

In a 66 it should be a poly.

Is it?

Should be a casting date on the side of the block that tells you month/day/year on the side.

Yes.

H = Model year = 1972
MN = Mound Road engine assembly plant
318 = CID
R = Regular fuel
3766 = date of assembly
2754 = engine assembled that day

So...as you know, this is not the original engine for your car. There should be a VIN stamped on a pad on the passenger's side. This will help determine from what plant and model the engine came in.

Yep, I know... This car was originally a slant 6 auto. Thanks for the info...I will look for that VIN number and casting date too.. The VIN number is at the rear of the engine if I recall properly. Let me go check.. This is mostly about curiosity and learning on my part.. It is fun trying to piece together the car's history.... I don't think any vintage car I have worked on in the last 20 years has actually had an origonal motor...what I found were usually out of trucks!

Thanks!!
Joel
