I have a question about heat resistant butyl mat that I will be installing on my inside firewall.

All the appliances have been removed from the firewall to install the butyl mat sections.

backside of firewall has been thoroughly cleaned

Because of the 80mil thickest of mat......

the butyl is soft so it should squish down very thin.

will I have to cut the mat so it is not between the master cylinder, brake pedal assembly and the fire wall?

I understand that the firewall holes will have to be cut..

will the clearance be too thick if I place it between the MC, brake-clutch assembly and firewall?

Your input is needed..

A thank you to all who participate....:)

You need to cut the mat so that the brake/clutch assembly directly contacts the firewall.
Do not sandwich the mat between the two. You don't need the mat to have 110% coverage.

Thank you for your reply....:)

I am not trying to get 110% coverage...

I just do not want to interfere with the proper mechanics of the intended recommended tolerances of Mopar.

(The tolerances that would effect the clutch and brake assembly may be changed and not work as intended??)

The mat would have a non grounding affect and would require a additional grounding strap as I see it.

feedback is welcome?

FYI

I crushed one corner of the 80 mil butyl mat.

The measured corner was .0134

which is smaller than 1/64th inch.

I know now what I am going to do.:)

Thanks
