I am considering an MRI study of my right knee which has been acting up lately. Here in Mexico (La Paz) an MRI off the street/out of pocket (no insurance/private pay) costs $6,000.00 Mexican Pesos which equates to $300.00 USD. With contrast dye the MRI would be a little more @ $7,000.00 Mexican Peso or $350.00 USD.

I wonder what an MRI would cost in the USA under similar circumstances?

in 2003, with insurance, my son's MRI's were $8K to $10K EACH, and the copay was about $600 to $700 each. He had 6-10 done, and the doctor wanted contrast, so he had to get them done all over again. It wasn't my fault, but we had to pay all over again if I remember correctly. He had a brain tumor that needed to get removed.

Without insurance, the out of pocket cost in the US would be a $Gazillion dollars.
I paid $3300 in May 2017 when my insurance lapsed. This was for an MRI of my mid section though.

I have had multiple MRI's done of my cervical spine and out of pocket cost was 0.. :) Workers Compensation paid for it all.

MRI's done of the knee at metro imaging is under a 1000 dollars. In France it's around 400, why I don't know, I was told that by someone that needed it while there on vacation. Never go to a hospital, it's by far more expensive.

My knees, spine, lower abdominal aorta and head (ear), all at different were $4500 with Medicare

I've had 2 done, lower back, and the other on a shoulder. Uncle Sam took care of the boat of them..

Do it yourself with an Etch-a-Sketch and a microwave oven. Are you going to have any more children?

Don’t get an MRI if you think you might have metal in your body. It’s very painful if you do, trust me!

Any time I had one done, I have to answer 1000 questions, including "if you have or think you have metal".

Ever use an induction stove top ? Anything magnetic gets "cooked". And the MRI equipment in the US doesn't use batteries....
