So, i'm watching a car commercial and the message is that the car has a system that stops the car if there's a obstacle you miss seeing. The obstacle was a millennial walking across a street with his head stuck in his phone, paying no attention.
So, in America, you don't have to do the basic thing of minding what yer doing and keeping yourself safe because we can just fork out $6000 extra bucks for cars with a computer that does it for you.

Personal accountability is dead. It makes me ill. Young girl in the back seat......her take away is get a car with the system! NOT watch where the hell your going...

Well let’s hope that millennial is fortunate because most likely you’ll probably be driving your b body with nice steel bumper

Pretty soon these idiots will need a machine to breathe for them. Oops, i forgot to breath. No worries, the Amazon EBreather will do it for you. Or maybe an Apple Oxidator if you're an apple fanboy. Tesla XBreath?

Wife bought a new car in 2018. (Brand-x) Was like pulling teeth to get to see the cars without all the automatic driving and navigation garbage on them. Finally found one 3 hours away and got it. Hard to find them now.

What happens when something fails and it won’t drive for you. You are stuck and it might be in a bad area or in zero degree weather. HMMMM, no thanks.

LOL, how about the Buick commercial with the woman who is so impressed that her husband / boyfriend has a button on his Buick the makes the car parallel park by itself. How about being a real man and parallel parking the vehicle by yourself???

On the flip side technology is maybe making us old farts safer from the new generation? Case in point: The commercial where the young ladies are too busy taking in-car selfies to stay in their lane, so the lane assist system goes off. Perhaps your precious B-body was just saved from being side-swiped.

There should be a consequence though. If lane assist has to step in because of some stupid behavior, the driver get's punished with a million volt jolt to the neck from a probe that retracts from the seat. They also get bitch slapped by a mechanical hand that comes out the other side of the seat and the whole incident is automatically recorded and uploaded to youtube for our enjoyment!

I’ll even donate the first 100 dollars to get that tech company started!!! Let’s do it !!!

In 2008 the military made it a UCMJ offense to walk anywhere on any federal property while looking at your phone. Too many young troops getting hurt and killed while texting...

All of this goes along with another pet peeve of mine.....those ridiculous little signs people stick by the road that say, " Drive like your kids live here."
**** you, keep your brats out of the damn road, parents. I grew up with a 55MPH country road running along the end of the yard, no ditch, no nothing, just grass, 20" of dirt and then pavement. None of our crew EVER had a time where we were in danger of getting hit. We knew to stay out of the damn road. What's so hard about that? I simply do not understand people these days. WTF?

Sounds like a case for over the top, obnoxiously loud exhaust; and supercharger sounds.
:)

pretty much spot on

I'm all for actual "good tech" making life better
maybe even a lil' easier

but computer-assisted driving isn't on the top of that list
not to me

a lil' less of them getting into my everyday life
would be much better

isn't paying attention behind the wheel a priority ?
or while crossing a damn street ?
"clueless, truly clueless"

seems like the powers to be don't think it is anymore

dumbing down the next generation/s,
molding (indoctrinating) them, into a mindless/careless blob of flesh

just like the damn "cell" phones do
or the Google or Alexa activated crap
are people really that fucken' lame or lazy ?

:soapbox:

Just got a new work car, ‘21 Rogue. You cannot put the car in drive with a door open. Not that it happens often but you can’t event jump in a move it a little without fully closing the door. Tried to move it in my driveway and couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t come out of drive.

BTW - The new millennials are GenZ. Millennials could be as old as 40 now. Just say’n.

Oh you're going to like this true story. My neighbor down the (narrow) country road from me moved into their old family house around five years ago. The speed limit is 35 mph which seems a bit high, but virtually no one drives that fast. Anyway, my new neighbors (parents and two kids around 6 to 7 years old) are standing in the road (husband) and to the side of the road (wife and 2 kids) waving/motioning at the occasional passing car to slow down! Really? I saw you 100 yards back and had already slowed down to 10 mph. They did this off and on for a few months.

Now, let's run the clock up to last Saturday (July 3rd). Returning from work Saturday evening I see flags on both sides of the road about 450 feet from my neighbor's house. Further inspection finds paint spots and markings/words, oil and gas stains; and some other stains:eek:. Also, there are debris like motorcycle batteries and an umbrella baby stroller pushed away from the ditch. Uh oh. So, I continue home, change my clothes, get our dog, and walk down to see what else I can see.

Yep, a vehicular accident. Blood on the road, vomit, gas and oil stains, skid/slide marks on opposite shoulders and across the road. Paint marks were from the Sheriff's dept.

It turns out my neighbor's son (now a teen) and his buddy rolled over the Dad's utility vehicle after losing control. His buddy will probably lose some fingers. I didn't hear any details of other injuries.

Gotta love concerned citizens...

I've run across my neighbor's two children from time-to-time since they moved here. Polite kids; just being a teen and they lucked out no one was killed.

The new insurance scam that puts the trackers in your car to see how fast you go, how far and how hard you brake....wonder if that also monitors how many times the lane departure and the other "safety" stuff gets activated.

"Some machine is doing that for you" All this reminds me of a song from around 1969, In the year 2525, I think they were about 500 years off.

I dont know about you all but i want a car that I DRIVE not a car that DRIVES ME.
